Howdy - I'm Tony Coke, or now, Kenny Hogg.

I purchased MMM more than a year ago and having some online marketing experience (not much success), I think it's awesome.

Unfortunately, it was really difficult to keep my whole band, scary cherry, focused and cooperating.  I have stepped back from scary cherry and started a comedy country duo, with profitability the number 1 priority, Kenny and Neil.

We're in the prelaunch now, getting online sites setup, products to sell in the sales funnel, and some content ready.  Then the launch: the goal is 1000 people on the email list, 10-15k on Facebook.  We'll start playing some online shows and hopefully some live gigs or open mics at least.  Next, we'll record an album using pledgemusic to capitalize on that email list.

If any one would like to offer any critique on our squeeze page or funnel process, it would be greatly appreciated and reciprocated. http://kennyandneil.com

I programmed up a Redneck Name generator which outputs your name to a "Redneck Birth Sirtificut".  Then, you are encouraged to put your redneck name in the comments, which get's shared on Facebook. (I'm not a programmer but somehow I got that done!)  There is video on each page, but I think I'll make a non-video version to split test.

We launch in less than a week (monday June1) when we'll get some air time on a local rock station.  I wrote a rock infused, comedy county theme song for the morning show.

Question:  We have no previously recorded music we can sell.  I made up some drop ship / on demand products at galloree.com to sell.  I wanted to write or have written some redneck E-books to sell, but we've been too busy.  What digital products other than music have you sold in your funnel????

I also partnered with a local soap and lotion business to do a private label, Kenny and Neil, line of lotions and soaps to market.  Weird I know, but there is no one marketing that to our demographic that I know of, plus it will be tons of funny video content.

I love the insider circle idea, unfortunately, I haven't taken advantage of it.  I hope to change that now.

Thanks to anyone for your thoughts!

Tony

Hey Tony,

I understand what you were asking on the call a bit better now that I see that you are doing a comedy thing. When you were talking I was wondering how ebooks were going to work for the average musician, but traditional merch makes more sense now.

The squeeze page looks good. I don't know how hard it would be, but what if you made an embedable redneck birth certificate generator and used that as it's own thing. Make it look less like a squeeze page and more like a typical widget. You might be able to convince other sites to embed it on their site as a fun tool. It could send the birth certificate by email, so long as it was auto generated. Might have some real viral potential.

I have no idea if you will do better with this offer then with an offer for a free track or two. But testing will tell you that. Same goes for video. Could help, could hurt.

Good start at the very least. You have all the right ideas in play.

That's a cool idea making it an embeddable widget, then you could be adding to your funnel from other sites.  I guess you could just use aweber's widget if it is only going to email the redneck birth certificate, if you could make it look appealing enough.  great idea!

Good news for me.  Kenny and Neil is a spin off of another comedy country thing I'm involved with.  I don't know why, but I thought that guy would be pissed that we were stealing his idea.

Quite the opposite, he was excited and has no problem with us using that band's music to sell in the sales funnel.  So we'll have digital download albums like normal, plus we can try out this drop ship galloree.com and see if anyone orders any merch.  I can't wait to see conversion numbers.  Guess I'll be on aweber all day tomorrow.

Next step is to setup two squeeze pages and get the split test code up and running.  I can't wait to check that out!

Thanks

Tony

Hey Tony,

Sorry for the slow response. I've been traveling for the last 5 days with very little internet. Back at the desk now.

I think I may have misunderstood something. I thought this was a random redneck name generator (like this: http://www.blogthings.com/hill.....generator/,) but which sent the name on a birth certificate just for fun. I take it this is just the same birth certificate that goes out to everyone? If I was to be honest, that would be less appealing to me personally than something unique. But that doesn't mean others will feel the same way. Hopefully they won't. Your testing will tell you everything.

Glad to hear there was no conflict there with the other musician. Good luck with the conversions. Let us know how it goes.

Aweber sends the first name and sex data back to the website after the data is submitted by the user.

Java then creates a unique name based on that data, and the person can click through and and play with the name until they get one they like.  Then it creates the birth sirtificut with that name.

It's been problem after problem though.  The site has been hacked over and over.

I have found a plugin called GOT MLS - so if anyone has an issue with wordpress php files being compromised, give this plugin a shot.  Ended up having to run it on every site hosted on that shared server account.  But it's all clean for 12 hours now, whereas before, it was reinfecting like every 10 minutes.

I still have some code issues to work out for making the Facebook sharing work out correctly.  It worked well, then stopped and I can't figure out why.  Wish I had taken a programming class.

We had a song played on the radio today, but the DJ gave out the damn Facebook page instead of the squeeze page!!!!!

So I stayed up until 3 getting it cleaned up for nothing.

It's coming... I'm not giving up dammit.

Oh cool, so it is something unique for each person. Awesome. Does sound like a lot of trouble though. That hacking issue sounds over the top. Is it being hacked that fast or is there some malicious code left in there that is just causing the issue to recur?

What have the conversion numbers been like so far and have you split tested them against just giving away a regular track? My apologies if you've already posted them and I'm just forgetting.

The malicious code was on every site I had on that server.  I believe as soon as I would clean something, code would rerun on another site and reinfect the rest of the sites again.  I don't believe it had anything specifically to do with any custom code I added.

I have no numbers yet.  My goal was to launch yesterday, but do to the hacking issue, I've pushed it back.

I have yet to run any ads or even tell anyone on Facebook the squeeze page exists.

I'd like to get a more traditional squeeze page / song give away page up so I can split test from the get go.

Wow, that's a rough situation. Who is your host? If it's a server wide issue and they can't help, I'd move to another hosting company.

It's with Lunarpages.  I moved it over to a Hostgator account I have, but the birth certificate script didn't work for whatever reason.

That's when I discovered the GOT MLS plugin, ran it on all my sites over at Lunarpages, then reinstalled KennyAndNeil.com.  No problems since.

I don't fault Lunarpages for it, they offered to clean my sites for $40, which I thought wasn't a bad deal.  But I'm glad I found this plugin, and can do it myself now.

Cool. How does the plugin work exactly?

Sorry John, just saw this.

It scans all files within the folders of the website, then it cleans them up.

It only cleans a few hundred files at a time, so if it's a big website, it can take a while to get it clean, but much better than doing it by hand!!!

Kenny and Neil has launched.

38 subscribers on Day 1.

184 Facebook likes, 5 Youtube subscribers.

I haven't set up any split testing yet.

This was strictly posting to my friends and my partner Mario's friends on Facebook, and sending them all to 1 squeeze page with video that instructs them to get their redneck name and birth sirtificut, which you can see at http://kennyandneil.com

It appears about 50 people made it from Facebook to Kennyandneil.com, so 38 sign ups out of 50 is not bad at all.

It looks like 2/3 of those people were on mobile devices also.

I can't seem to embed the video.. but here is a link to a vid of me discussing things.

Hey Tony.

It doesn't get too much better than a 76% conversion rate 🙂

Those numbers wont likely hold purely because that is referred traffic, which converts better than anything else. But hey, it's certainly a good sign and a good start.

Well done, cool video, and good luck.

Yes I agree, that will plummet when it's paid traffic instead of referred.

Got our first sale today!

They bought the "Greatest sHits" digital download, then went for the upsell of all songs for a total of $19.90.

Problem is their email address was mail@domain.com

They were not added to the customer and upsell lists and never got the emails with download links, and when I tested, I too never got any emails (paypal@domain.com)

Couldn't figure out what the deal was, so I chatted with Aweber and they said these were both "role based email", and they don't like them.

They made me two webforms (for customer and upsell list) where I can manually add "role based emails" after I see the PayPal order go through, then manually remove it from the general list.

How is everyone else handling this?

Hi Tony,

Congrats on the sale!

Yes, we are aware of the issue with "role-based" email addresses in Aweber.

The good news is that very few people actually use role based emails because, well, they're human.

For instance most people aren't going to have admin@domain.com .  Most people will using mikeyg4life@gmail.com or something like that.

This shouldn't come up too often.

haha thank Floyd Patrick-Joe!

Things have slowed considerably.  My partner has been busy with other projects and lost steam with Kenny and Neil.

Not sure if I"ll be able to rejuvenate his ambition, or if I'll have to continue alone, or find another Neil.

I hope things are going well for you.

Hey Tony,

Sorry, I somehow missed your June 19th post. Just seeing it for the first time now.

It was great to hear that you made your first sale. Bummer that the project has slowed down. Maybe time to Just be Kenny. If only there was a name generator that could help you think up a catchy last name for your new solo comedy country act. Hmmmm 😉

Lol -  Ya maybe I'll just be Krazy Kenny Hogg.  I'll hopefully get it sorted out this weekend with Neil.

I wrote a short ebook on my take of the music industry today, that I will be putting up on Amazon.  If anyone would like to critique it, it would be much appreciated!

I think the best way to do it would just be to email me and I'll send it... tonycoke@scarycherry.com
