Thank you in advance for your help with this. I appreciate not being on my own trying to fathom this out. It’s worth every Penny!

I've run my ad for one day and paused it as I think I have some issues.

I believe my issues area:

  • problem with my pixel /custom conversion / event set up
  • Problem with effective of my squeeze page

Our squeeze page:

https://www.thecondriacs.com/freemusic

Would love honest feedback on the page (my gut feel is that the headline is very long)

We are an old-school soul songwriting duo with a lead vocal that gets compared to a mix between Smokey Robinson and early Rod Stewart (we don’t want to target Rod as his later music doesn’t really suit us, although we could be wrong in that!)

We have targeted US only (we will expand to UK with a second campaign), 25-60, with three audiences; lookalike, Otis Redding, Gregory Porter.

Our budget is £7 per adset ($9.60) and although we have the budget for a conversion campaign, I couldn’t get it to set up properly and within ads, it told me I wouldn’t get any results with my adset set up, so I chose traffic as my objective instead.

I set up a custom conversion event as the ‘thanks’ url and it seems to refer to this as an offline event. I assume it just means not on Facebook?

After one day, we have a cost per link click ranging from 8p to 10p and we have received four email sign up notifications from AWeber, but there’s no stats on this in our Facebook campaign, so we don’t know which adset gave us these. Problem with pixel / event set up??

If they all came from the same adset, then I have something to work with as that would be less than £2 per email (still far too expensive with a $7 album to sell!), but if they were spread across the three adsets then I’m assuming there’s an issue with the squeeze page effectiveness.

To summarise, we spent £21 and got 237 link clicks, 184 landing page views (why is this lower than link clicks?) and 4 email sign ups, although none showing in the conversion stats.

I’ve attached some screenshots of the Facebook stats happy to attach anything else you need to see...

HELP!

Thank you

Hi Peter,

These are fairly big questions with a lot of variables that are all hard to walk you through in writing, but I will do my best in context below.

I think the headline is too long, a bit clunky, and not clear enough about what is special and unique about you guys.

With a headline like... SIT BACK AND LET TONY’S SOULFUL VELVET VOICE WRAP YOU IN A WARM BLANKET AND SING AWAY YOUR BLUES WITH THIS FREE DOWNLOAD FROM ONE OF THE MOST AUTHENTIC RETRO SOUL SONGWRITING DUOS TO COME OUT OF LONDON…

...the people who will connect with this are people  who are immediately interested in Tony, velvet voices, being wrapped in a warm blanket, having their blues sung away, free downloads, authentic retro soul songwriter duos from London. I know it sounds silly to put it like that, but it's really important that we do. The words communicate specific things, and if there is no interest in those specific things then there will be no interest your offer. The only thing that stands out to me personally in that is "authentic retro soul" music. If you agree, then it becomes important to tap into what is truly transcendent about retro soul music and then offer that in your headline. It's often helpful to find language that others have used to describe other artists with the same unique selling proposition and borrow that language.

What is your USP?

The above sounds like a good start, but $10 USD is a little low to be targeting three ad sets. It can be done, but if things are struggling, then it may be better to up the budget to $10 per ad set, use ad set budgeting, and then quickly turn off the under performing ad sets (within a day or two) if there is a clear leader, and just leave the one ad set on with the full $10 USD. The more data the better, so we really push it if the budget is too low and we don't get enough traffic or subs.

It sounds like your conversion goal is not set up right. Facebook just changed the process in the last few days. I have a lesson coming out on it. But have you watched the November lesson on verifying your domain? Hang tight for the new lesson. Should be out very soon. You definitely want to go with conversions rather than traffic if you can.

To summarise, we spent £21 and got 237 link clicks, 184 landing page views (why is this lower than link clicks?) and 4 email sign ups, although none showing in the conversion stats.

184 landing page views and 4 conversions is terrible. Is Aweber confirming 184 landing page views in sign up form stats? The reason for the difference between clicks and landing page views is that sometimes people click and close a page before the landing page actually loads. This can be because of warnings or intermediary messages that their browser or app is throwing as they go off of FB or it could just be because they closed the page so quick that the page didn't fully load.

I’ve attached some screenshots of the Facebook stats happy to attach anything else you need to see...

Thanks for taking the time to respond personally John.

I already know I’ve made some mistakes but I’m learning.

just to clarify, I am spending $10 per adset, not $10 in total as you thought, so I spent just under $30 on day one that gave me the results Iaid out above.

USP I think probably needs some work (as does the headline!!

we are an old school soul songwriting duo with heavy emphasis on sentimental and story telling lyrics and a very distinctive soulful lead vocal that sooths the soul.

We found this very difficult to come up with (as I know most do) we’ve been going for a few years and have a large social media following and a lot of very engaged fans and we’ve kind of gone by what they tell us about our music.

i made the mistake of not resetting the sign up form stats (didn’t know that I couldn’t specify the timeframe for the stats). There were 253 displays and 21 submissions, but this includes the testing I did before the campaign went live.

i did watch the November video and I did verify the domain. I also followed Facebook instructions on how to set up a custom conversion and an offline event using the url for the thanks page. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’ve screwed this up though.

hope with your help I can get this on track.

it does concern me about the unknown element of what the potential fan is experiencing when they click the ad e.g warning messages and such like. Is there any way of discovering what’s happening there?

my intention is to get this working, run it for a while to get enough data to make it worth our while to have an hour of your time to help us work out what to do next. We didn’t see the point in doing that without some meaningful data for you to work with.

Hey Peter,

I made a video response for you rather then spend 45 minutes typing one up:

Hi John,

That was a great way of responding. Thank you.

I’ve taken on board your points about the USP and the headline and I’m going to spend a bit more time on this.

I’ve had another go at the conversion event.

I decided to start afresh and try to create a new pixel and followed the Facebook instructions to make sure it’s connected to the domain.

the new pixel and related event appears in my adset options, but when I choose them, it says the event isn’t associated with any of my domains, even though I’ve tested it and it’s sending back data. I wonder if there’s a lag before it can be used in an ad?

i looking forward to listening to your lesson on this

I’ve duplicated my original campaign and changed the objective to conversions and then chosen landing page as the optimisation and delivery option, but all three of my ads are now saying ‘adset may get zero landing page views’

not sure what to do about that. Do I ignore it?

The videos you recommended, I’ve already watched, but I’m going to go through them again (I’ve watched most of your videos, twice!) I am a bit obsessive with these things.

Thanks for your help so far.

Pete

I’ve attached the screen shot of the warning I’m gettin on all three adsets.

i now seem to have the event set up correctly and it’s being recognised by the adset. Hoorah!

i have changed the optimisation to conversions.

the warning message appears whether i have it set as landing pages or conversions.

Does the warning message about zero results mean I’ve done something wrong in the ad set up?

Hi Pete,

I am not seeing an attachment. You need to upload it and then add it to the post. I'm thinking you only did the first step. I've done that as well. Can you try uploading the images again?
