Kat and I are doing a JV that is going really well, and I just want to tell you how we did it.

It is remarkable, really, that we do different types of music and both have "pushed" our lists to the limits and still done well on the JV. Kat has just done two back-to-back CD releases, and I have been very aggressive in order to make PPC work for me without a lot of product diversity--I have one CD release, various "spin-offs", and some services--and that is a challenge. (Working on getting another CD out.)

In summary, here's what we did. I really liked Kat's song Let's Not be Scared on her new release, so I asked her if I could cover it as an instrumental and give it to my list (although I am aggressive with asking for money, I try to include a lot of free music and stuff of real value so they have a reason to keep opening emails). FYI, if you don't know, I'm a smooth jazz saxophonist, and Kat is a singer/songwriter.

We decided to offer our lists both versions of the song as a zipped file. Kat basically said, "Charley did this awesome cover of my song...go download it AND my original version at SQUEEZE PAGE." I said, "Kat allowed me to cover her awesome song AND offer both versions to you at SQUEEZE PAGE."

Here are the emails we used to direct our lists to the squeeze pages: Swipe Files.

Results: Kat is currently on a boat, and unable to give me alot of detail, but she said her inbox was flooded with subscription notices. Based on the limited info she was able to give me, and based on my own Aweber click-through stats, she has to be getting a conversion rate of better than 50%. My conversion rate is darn near 70%. It was certainly worth writing the emails. The recording and mixing took some time, but I kept it under a day. So, yeah, it was way worth it.

All that to say: if you can build a compelling story into your JV and communicate to your fans a *real* connection with your JV partner, it can work very well. We both agree that doing JVs with other musicians goes much better with Insider Circle members who understand how to do this. Wink

Awesome Charley! Feel like sharing how many subscribers you guys each pulled in now that the dust has settled? Totally cool if you want to keep that private for any reason. Just always love to hear the numbers.
