I just had to share this.
I didn't have a proper membership site plugin, so I went with Patreon for my upsell for a while. Didn't really get any takers.
Recently I got a great lifetime deal on Wishlist Member, so I installed it today and switched out the Patreon upsell for a more traditional MMM membership site.
Within 30 minutes after I updated the upsell page I had my first membership sale! So I think it's safe to say that a membership converts better than a Patreon page (because of the scarcity element, I assume).
I'm keeping my Patreon page, though, and using Zapier to give Patrons access to the membership site. That way it's $3 a month (plus sales tax, which I don't know what amounts to), and I'm offering the yearly membership at $20 per year.
So, pretty stoked about this win. 😀
I should also point out that this one membership paid for my whole ad budget for today. 😀
That's awesome man! Glad to hear it.Â
I know I mentioned this to you the other day Eyvi, but for others reading... I set up a Patreon campaign for a non-music related podcast of mine recently, and while I have gotten backers, I don't love Patreon. I find it clunky and I don't like the lack of control, or the bigger fees.
I'm glad I did it though because I was about to release my next album via Patreon but will now be skipping that and going with my own membership site. Tutorials to come 🙂
So did you just use the sales page template with a timer on it, same as the album sales page layout in MMM? Or something different?
Have you considered just messaging Patreons and trying to move them over? This might result in a few losses, but might be cleaner for the future.

I have thought about that. Since I only have 8 patrons, I'm not too concerned. I might just replicate the tiers from Patreon over on the membership site.
I agree, after using Patreon for a few months now I find it pretty clunky. Also, as I was moving the posts over from Patreon over to my membership I found that like half of them were missing. So the archive I had set up over there wasn't even there. I don't know if they didn't post properly (I was posting hundreds of things) or if they expire or what, but I was not happy.
Oh, and to answer your question, yeah, I just used the upsell template from MMM. I don't even use a timer on it - just the copy. I'm sure I could improve on it. This is the page:
Ah, I see. I didn't realize this was an upsell. I thought it was a primary offer. You might try running traffic to a membership site offer, rather than the album sales page and see what happens. I would also personally make a custom order button. That paypal button is not very prominent, at least to my eye.

Yeah, I'm having some trouble figuring out how to use a custom order button with Wishlist Member. Maybe you can help me with that? Cause that's not an html code, but a shortcode within WP.
Scratch that! I figured out how to do it. Switching out the button!

I just put together a pledge page - basically copied the pledges from my Patreon page over. I'm going to send my existing members over there an email and ask them to move over. I think it looks OK. Any feedback?
Had a formatting problem, but fixed it. Think it works OK now.
I think it looks really good. The only thing I would say is that a video of you talking to camera, looking the part, and explaining the offer would likely really help.
Short of that, the only thing I would do is make the image (if you didn't replace t with a video) full width, so it had the same padding as the text... but that's a super minor thing and won't likely impact much at all.

Yeah, I've been meaning to make a video, just haven't gotten around to it - would do it today, but I'm sick, so I'll wait until I can talk again. 😉
Hey Eyvinder,
I also have a membership site as my upsell. Just been checking out your upsell page. What percentage of your buyers go for your upsell?
Cheers!
Rachel
So far I've only had one person take the upsell out of maybe 7 sales since I switched from Patreon. I took a little break last week, so I haven't been running ads until today. So the sample size is very small, especially since I'm still fine tuning my funnel and my targeting.

Added a video to both my regular patron page (with monthly pledges, like Patreon) and to my upsell page. My current batch of signups is moving through the funnel, so in the next few days I will hopefully start seeing sales, and then we'll see what happens with the membership site.
Awesome. I'd love to see the video. Good luck.

Sure. There are two different ones (although they're almost the same, just slightly different based on the offer). I'd love your feedback.
