I think it's really good. I would think it would convert well.

A couple of bits of feedback, but I understand that this is a finished work and you may not want to mess with it. But these are the things I would do differently if you ever do take another pass.

  • While I think you look really cool in the video, I don't know that I thought the way you looked aligned with your USP. I expected to see the Tom Waits / Nick Cave-esque quirky guy who maybe wore a hat, or a blazer, and embodied that kind of a thing. This would be the first time I was likely engaging with video of you as a fan, so the way you look will fire off all kinds of neurons in my brain if I've made it this far just from listening to songs and reading your content.
  • I might add a little music of yours behind the video. There is some subtle comedy to your patter, and I think music would accent that a little more.
  • The fact that you called it a Patron club, confused me a little. Especially because you referenced it being the same as your Patreon page... I couldn't exactly follow, and I already know the story. I do realize we spoke about the sue of "patron" and in general I like it. I guess I just wouldn't have name it that personally. But I also doubt this will hurt you in any real way. But I think it might leave people assuming you are talking about Patreon.
  • The headline on the sales page should be centered.

But all in all, I think the video looks really good and is generally very clear, aside from the Patron thing.

What did you use to edit the video? Those overlays look great.

Thanks, man. Yeah, that all makes sense. I'll give the name some more thought. I may very well re-record it. And yeah, some music seems obvious.

I use Adobe Premiere to edit. Those overlays are from a site called Envato Elements, where I get a ton of stock footage and graphic elements and stuff. Really helps me make my videos and graphics look good and speeds up my process, too.

Thanks for the tips, John. I'll take it all on board, and might do a new take on it next week.

Very cool. I use adobe Premier as well, but I've never gotten very advanced with editing. I'd like to though. I'm familiar with Envato Elements but have only looked at wordpress themes there. Are these essentially plugins that you just import and then they show up in the graphics that you can drag and drop onto the timeline?

Yeah, pretty much. You drag them into a folder, and then when you go to a certain tab, they show up as graphical elements. Then you drag and drop, just like with video clips, and then you can edit the text and the appearance and stuff. I can show you if you want. It's pretty straightforward.

I had to post here about a new thing I'm doing with my membership that is getting me good feedback. So I decided to start doing a kind of a premium podcast - just a few minutes pretty frequently (like on most days) of me chatting about art and music and whatever pops into my head and then singing a song. I just hit record in my DAW, export and upload - takes 15-20 minutes to do. And then I'll share one every now and then with my entire list.

So I just started this two days ago and sent the first out to my list yesterday. Also did a second one yesterday. And I immediately got a reply from one of my superfans, who absolutely loved the idea. But the biggest thing was that I mentioned (pretty casually) that I would share this every now and then with the world at large, but much more frequently with the members on my site, and one guy immediately signed up for $5 a month!

Right now it's not so much a podcast as it is just audio files uploaded to posts on the site. But there are ways (including free ones, I think) to make it work on people's podcast players, and having it password protected, so I'm looking into that right now. I'll share that on here, if anybody wants to try this out.

Anyway. Membership is growing, which is a great thing.

Hi Eyvindur,

Steve here.  John is doing some traveling, but this is really cool to hear and I'll make sure that he gives you a reply when he gets back.

Congrats and good luck!  I hope this turns into something fun and rewarding for you.

This is a signature file.  You can edit your own by clicking "profile" and selecting "Edit Signature".  You can make it an image, or just plain text.  You can also link it to wherever you like.  Perhaps your Squeeze Page?

Yeah, no worries, I heard from John the other day. Just wanted to share this while it was still fresh in my mind. 🙂

Hey Eyvi,

That's awesome. And yeah, it's a great addition to any membership site. There is no reason it couldn't be the entire base content of the membership site.

I haven't found a simple way of password protecting a podcast that will still play in itunes and syncing that podcast to the membership plugin, but by all means... Go and find that for us will ya? I'm fairly sure it's out there.

For now I am using the strategy you see here in the MMM members area, under "archives". That is using a podcast player plugin along with the Powerpress plugin. I'm just not releasing the feed to the aggregators.
