Hi Mike,

If you've had thousands of people hit your site and almost no conversions then something is terribly wrong.

I can see that you've made a few significant changes to the copy on your squeeze page (unless you are sending traffic to something other than the primary one I created for you a while back. The emphasis is now on your new album rather than the experience your music offers. But it is the experience that we are actually selling. You have also added a video, which is usually a mistake.

I'm going to shoot you an email, as I do want to see you succeed with this and I think this can be easily turned around. I have a few thoughts. But I'll need some access. Sending you an email now.

Having trouble with your marketing? Wish you could have an experienced direct-to-fan marketing expert look over your actual campaigns, music, or content and offer feedback? Or perhaps you’re just looking for a little one-on-one assistance so you can ask questions that pertain to your specific goals and get a second, more experienced, perspective? Hi Mike,

What am I looking at there? I see two email campaigns. Are they both running at the same time? What is the difference between them?

Some of those click through rates are very low. But others are not. I need to understand better what I'm looking at.

It might be easier if you just took a screenshot of the campaign so I can see things a bit more clearly.

Also, I remember when I looked at your funnel a while back, the emphasis in some places was on country, but the content was all about blues... Did that change or is there still potential disconnect?

Hi Mike,

Steve here, from support.

If you are on a PC, you can take a screenshot by pressing the "PrtSc/SysRq" key (next to the F12 key).  Then you can paste (right click > Paste, or Ctrl + V) into an email.

Here's how to take a screenshot on a MAC:

Hi Mike,

See Steve's message above for info on posting screenshots. That would be the best way to do it int the future. If you use Chrome then there is a handy browser app called Fireshot that makes it really simple. It may be available in other browsers as well.

I'm still a bit confused at what I'm looking at because of the way it's laid out above, but I think I get the basic gist.

My impression is that the open rate on the second email is surprisingly low. But from there, the open rate is pretty solid. In fact your first LTO email gets a significantly higher open rate than your second email. The click through rate is fauirly low in the LTO as well.

I could absolutely be wrong on this, but that suggests to me that a lot of people are losing interest after they get the download. But those that like what they hear stay pretty engaged.

This could be because the targeting is off, or it could be because the message is off. I know that when I looked at things there was an issue where the funnel was slanted towards blues, but the music had been replaced with more of a country album. I'm not sure where things stand at the moment, but it could be that there is a mismatch happening somewhere in there.

My biggest concern for you with this approach is that, while I know you have a lot of drive, I know that you've always mentioned a disconnect with the technical and "marketing" stuff. At the end of the day, all we are doing is having conversations. It's worth following some of the exercises in the copywriting lessons here in the IC, and see if you can't find a way to connect with the fact that your blog posts, emails, and other content is just you having conversations with real people, while subtly trying to overcome resistance. There really is no trick to this beyond that.

Imagine if you were a passionate republican and you tried to go out in the street, approach strangers, and start conversations with  democrats about political action you wanted them to take... Needless to say, things would not go well. But if you had that conversation with random republicans they might. Those republicans still might not take the action you want them to take for a million reasons (they are busy, they don't know/trust you yet, they don't have time, etc), but if you go into the conversation prepared for the common points of resistance, and with a way of making the request worth their while, you would likely get some that were willing to take the action you wanted.

That's basically the same thing we are trying to do in our marketing funnels.

I don't say this to suggest that targeting is the big problem. It could be, but I'm less concerned about that, especially because you are getting so many affordable subscribers. Instead, I'm suggesting that you may be having the wrong (or possibly not authentic enough) conversations, at least with this audience.

The bottom line is that if you give the people what they truly want, and you make a real connection with your fellow human beings, they will get behind you, and purchase.
