Experimenting a bit more with different audiences and I'm now consistently getting confirmed opt ins for £0.30 to £0.60, which is great.
Email open and click rates are boosted.
Not getting the sales still. In fact, no sales at all this month. My list is growing pretty fast though.
Fingers crossed it's a case of getting the last bit of the email sequence figured out.
I tried DM'ing new followers on instagram with a link to a squeeze page and got some subscribers doing that - so using a program to automate the process. I think (roughly) that should be bringing in subscribers for £0.40-£0.80 each (cost of program divided by monthly subscribers), but will report back on that after giving it a few days.
That all sounds awesome, aside from the sales. I tend to wait until there are about 100 - 200 subs through the funnel, and if numbers are off I send out a survey to delicately ask why they didn't buy. Often there are patterns in the answers that are very revealing. But make sure they are all through the funnel first, and make sure you have enough data to be able to rely on your assumptions.

That's a cool idea John - thanks!
Could you give an example of the survey you send? I don't want to accidentally come across as "Hey you piece of shit, why didn't you buy my CD???" haha. Or is this covered in one of the monthly trainings on here?
Hey Sam, here is a lesson on it: https://www.mmmanifesto.com/in.....your-fans/
But yeah, it requires a delicate touch, which is all discussed in the lesson.

30 days of blogging complete - looks like my Google traffic is going to pick up, judging from Google Search console.
I sent a few updates to my list, so i could go for an "ask" today, and sent the survey today. I'll re-broadcast to people who haven't opened on Monday morning, and see what results I get.
Sounds good. How did the survey go?
Sorry I've been a bit slow this last week. Been swamped with the Music Ads Workshop launch, but things should be calming down by next week.

I got 17 responses to the survey.
The biggest reason for not buying was that people didn't have the money.
Most people said they loved the songs and the content. The most requested item they wanted more of was free music but lol, I'm not making music for free.
One person bought download because the survey served as a reminder haha.
So I've dropped the MP3 download price to £7. I'm sending a couple of emails a week with a lightly entertaining story and a pretty low key sentence at the end with a link to the download.
Scored two sales when I sent the first one. So overall, last week was break-even on add spend.
trying a different product today. Will send more next week.
Rejigged my email sequence to try and get front-end sales. The 20% discount LTO is not working for me.
Sounds promising. Really unique that the LTO is not working for you. There is a missed opportunity there somewhere. I only say that in the sense that it is where 80% of my sales come from, most of the time.

Yeah it's weird. My click rates on the LTO emails were abysmal. Open rates on Blog 1 and Blog 2 emails are around 50%.
I'm going to keep playing around with it.
I edited the sales page and average view time of my sales page is now 2 minutes. So I'm holding attention, just have to work on getting that sale.
There is something else you might try...
I would go into each email and set up tagging automation to tag each person that opens and clicks on an email. This way you can run a report by tag and find out exactly how many people have made it through the funnel.
Because usually when I see stats like that it means that very few people are making it through the funnel and what you are seeing is statistically insignificant. Whether it's 50% or 3%, if only 4 people made it that far then it changes the outlook.
The set up looks like this...
My hunch is that we are looking at statistical insignificance here because of the small budget. I could certainly be wrong, but low open rates on a funnel that is otherwise doing pretty well is very unusual.

thanks John,
how many people do you want to see go through a funnel before you make a judgement on how effective the funnel is?
Minimum of 100. 200 is better. Technically you don't achieve real statistical significance until you get even more in the funnel, but 100 - 200 is close enough. Just make sure everyone has actually completed the funnel, and take into consideration changes you may have made early in the testing process.

Gotcha. Even with my small budget, my funnel is getting just over 200 emails a month, so that shouldn't take too long to test out
Edit: Spent the last two days rewriting the funnel and just launched it. Phew. Will see how it goes!
Awesome. Good luck.

After rewriting and rewriting emails, and rewriting the sales page to a slightly more old school approach (I started reading old copywriting books), I'm getting sales.
It's not breaking even (yet), but I am getting 2-3 sales every week, so that is roughly 4% - 10%.
All the sales are coming from the first offer email (see attached image), which has a 10% click through.
The other two emails (I Am Not Zakk Wylde and Last Chance) have a 1.4% and 0% click through... so I'm going to town on those over the next few weeks.
If I can pump those numbers up... I'll be in business.
Hey
So sorry for the lack of reply. We switched servers last week and I just discovered that I have not been getting email notifications ever since. Did not see this until just now.
That's great news! Keep in mind that many profitable musicians do not profit on the initial funnel. You are buying yourself an audience. You still have (in some cases) many years to profit from these people (though we would hope to profit much sooner of course). But you should be running additional promotions throughout the year and it may be that it is your second promo where things really hit the black.

Thank John,
yes I know I have plenty of time! I'm mailing my list 3-4 times a week, and sending them stuff they are interested in. It's also building my YouTube channel, with people watching on average 1 hour a day of my videos, which is cool.
I added the survey into my funnel, which is pumping out some useful information... I'm certain I can get the funnel profitable on the front end with some tweaking of emails and what I offer people. The cool thing with the survey is people are telling me what they want to buy, and why they aren't buying at the moment!
No doubt. Survey's are great. And really under utilized. I admire your diligence.
