Just wondering how everyone is doing with their onlne marketing versus their music marketing - this thread has grown quiet...I guess everyone is too busy kicking ass?
Hi John,
I read an ebook about import from China as I was sourcing some merch, and the writer recommended Jim Cockrum's program.
He seems against what I learned from MMM -seo, blogs, ppc, FB ads and such.
What's your opinion on his program?
Thanks!
Chelsea
Hi Chelsea,
I'm not familiar with Jim Cockrum so I couldn't comment.
But I can't even follow the concept of someone being against SEO, blogging, PPC, and Facebook ads as those are all the major tenants of online marketing and traffic generation. I would challenge the validity of anyone who suggests there is no value in those strategies. In fact I wouldn't even know where to start because the idea is preposterous to me.
That said, there are a million strategies out there and I wouldn't suggest you couldn't do things another way. You certainly can. But the main principles behind any online business are driving traffic to an offer. If the offer does not lend itself to an impulse purchase then building a relationship before presenting a purchase off is added to the flow. IE list building.
There are other models such as ebay and Aamzon businesses that rely on the parent company to do a lot of the traffic generation, but it's still all part of the process, and those models don't really apply to marketing your music on the scale we are attempting to do here.
Hope I'm understanding your question.
Cheers.

Hi John,
Thanks for your reply!
I just briefly scanned through his ebook.
Jim's principle basically seems like take your product to where the audience is(ebay, amazon...)..rather than trying to drive people to where you are at..
Here's screenshots of some of the pages..

his stuff might not apply to music.. since Im planning to cross promo my music and merch, I just entertained the idea of getting my merch on etsy, amazon etc..
discovering these marketing moguls, many tactics, it feels overwhelming..
Since you read, studied many marketing stuff, I wanted to get your opinion..
Cheers!
I know what you mean. It does get overwhelming once you start going down that rabbit hole. There are a million strategies and it really can rock your confidence once you become aware of the different approaches that are possible. It tends to cause one to jump ship too early on projects. I went through the same thing and tried everything under the sun, only to finely stumble upon a successful project and realize that 80% of what leads to success is really pretty fundamental stuff. Drive traffic to an offer >> build relationships if applicable >> sell.
Nothing wrong with selling your music on ebay and etsy, but I those are sales platforms and not really marketing strategies. I wouldn't personally be putting my focus there, beyond the basics. Just one guy's opinion.
