Hey John,
Last year one of the best things I did was to start writing for mind body green. Sometimes they pushed my articles and I got a few hundred likes on fb and shares on twitter etc. and I got a couple of sales as a result of people reading my articles and checking out my landing page. It also gave my site good seo.
But because of how frequently I was submitting articles they started to not push them as much or at least some of them and I also began to question whether it was time to transition to putting content on my site and making the same effort to let people know about it as I had been when they posted on mbg. So I tried one and got about 90 shares which was about the equivalent if I posted on mbg and they didn't promote the article.
But, I'm confused about how to maximize the article writing. Here are some ideas:
1. Rotate:
one week an article to mbg, one week an article to popgozen and one week a music article to how to meditate with music
2. Newsstand:
I have software that enables me to create a magazine in pdf form and with a developers license, make the magazine available on itunes in the newsstand. I could offer the first issue free and then charge a nominal monthly fee and slowly grow my readership. This would not just be my content but also offer content from fellow writer/meditators and health and wellness friends. I like this idea and could do it in addition to other article marketing.
3. Just stick to MBG because it has the biggest reach, helps seo and keeps things simple.
4. ?
All of those approaches sound reasonable. My personal approach to writing articles these days is to simply write as much as I can, or want to, and find the best publisher possible for it. If there isn't one, I publish to one of my own properties. Because there is a lot of value in MBG I'd publish as much as you can. And then publish to your own site as much as you can. Then find other sites that are willing to publish, etc.
I personally would stay away from the magazine angle because I think it introduces more complexity than is necessary right now. But that's just me. If it appeals to you, go for it and see how it does.

yeah... it does appeal to me but maybe juggling too much right now. I have an idea for a couple of smaller ticket items I'd like to create so maybe better just to focus on driving traffic to my current offer and developing those other products to sell to the email list I develop...
I think that's a better plan. First goal is to sell a lot of copies of one thing. Second goal is to introduce a second product into an already profitable funnel. And so forth.
