Hey John,
So, I've had a couple of people in the wellness space reach out to me because my site is ranking. They are assuming that I have a decent list and they are pitching their products to promote... they are also boasting over 100,000 list size. I think I sounded like a rookie to the first one who contacted me and the conversation stopped. I'm wondering whether I suggest purchasing a solo ad to the second one and what is fair market value etc.
Also, there are a couple of brands in my space that I have access to. I would like to approach them as well. One of them I think my program would be perfect for. The other one I'm really not clear about but I have access so I'm thinking I should engage with them in some way... maybe they would let me know how much customer acquisition is costing and demographics, for example so I can get a better sense of monetization challenges in the space? I don't know. They are a company called headspace and they are on a massive scale compared to what I'm trying to do. I had a meeting with them and the marketing guy could not imagine doing what I'm trying to do on such a small scale. He thought I was crazy considering the hurdles they have been facing while having all the resources they have. But I think it's apples and oranges isn't it? I mean... they are on such a massive scale and I don't need to do that... don't even want to do that. So maybe they can't be of any help but I thought you might have some thoughts about it...
Hey Julianna,
I'm not exactly clear on what you're asking... You want to know what to charge people, or what they should charge you? I wouldn't offer ads until you have a large list.
Solo Ads are a little risky because so many people are full of shit. I had a launch once with a guy who claimed to have about 300,000 subs and he sent me 30 clicks. That same launch I had a guy with 500 subs become my second best affiliate. I've paid for solo ads that have been great successes and others that sent me ZERO.
You have to feel the person out and make a risk assessment. I have a handful of JVs that I go back to again and again. the good ones are gold. Stay away from anyone soliciting through a network, for now. Best bet is to find people you know of in your market and approach them directly. Ask about what they use to host their mailing list. If it's self hosted, forget it. If it's something you haven't heard of, be cautious. If it's Aweber, or another big one then that's a good sign.
As for the scale comment, I couldn't say, I don't know anything about this company. But most info businesses are one or two man operations. They really don't take much in my opinion. MMM is a 6 figure business now and is just me and Steve for the most part. Steve only works a few hours a day on average. It takes work, but you don't have to be some huge entity to pull it off.

Ok I'll stick to expanding the connections I know thru people for now.
Yes it took me a while to realize that to achieve what I want to achieve I don't have to get big. I'm working out of a co-working space and alot of those businesses are looking for seed funding etc. Being surrounded by it, I forgot that I don't need or care about that.
The company I was talking about have millions of dollars invested in them. If they succeed, they open the door for meditation to be perceived as a viable market, because they are one of the first companies to go big like that. So it seems like we are too far apart for there to be a connection but I have access to them and they're very nice guys so I'm wondering what you think? They have over a million users of their meditation app and they just did a deal with W hotels, etc. etc.
Yeah, if they have the ability to push a notification out to their app base, or if they have email subscribers, why not simply suggest a JV promo. When I get big partners like that I usually kick the funnel off with a webinar so there is something unique, special, and live, for them to share with their list. It usually feels the most natural, at least to me. But the sky is the limit in terms of ideas. My brain just always goes to "build my list and offer stuff to it that they will like". I don't like too many moving pieces.

Ok so I would pitch them the idea of doing a webinar and have them send folks to a webinar sign up page? I don't think they would get on the call with me themselves... although someone from their team might...
That is how I would do it. Like you've seen me do with MMM I'm sure. You find someone with an audience and get them to mail out an invite for some dynamic live content. Then you split any profits generated. That said. i think you should focus on the simple things first. Get a working PPC driven funnel up before you branch off into more moving pieces.
