Hey John, post penguin, how would you promote an affiliate site that has solid content? Also, if I decided to go a more aggressive route and there was backlash, would that affect the SEO for my other sites hosted in the same account? I am with godaddy and they can't provide separate IPs unless you have a private server. If my riskier sites could affect SEO on my more stable, conservative ones, I'm wondering how to separate out sites I am taking more of a risk with when I have shared hosting.
I'd promote them like I discussed in the post penguin training module. I'd create quality links from quality sites. Guest blogging and Web 2.0 primarily. Maybe a few press releases here and there. But I'd also do everything I could to encourage people to share my content via the social sharing buttons. Those social signatures are really counting for a lot.
I have never heard of one site being penalized because it was on teh same IP as a site that did, nor have I experienced it. But you don't want to link your sites if they are all on the same IP. That could create a problem.
