Hey John,

I've been checking out leadpages vs optimize press and I'm tempted to go with leadpages for a few reasons:

1. I've gotten used to using systems like optimize press for creating landing pages but they can be really time consuming. Leadpages has a variety of templates that have been pre-tested and they are quicker to customize. This really appeals to me.

2. Leadboxes is a new feature with two step opt in boxes which supposedly convert better and it looks like an interesting feature.

3. Page loading time is supposed to be much faster with leadpages.

Here's why I'm hesitating: There is a leadpages wordpress plugin so you can select your landing page from a drop down menu in your wp admin area, but I don't think page loading time (which is one of the key reasons for purchasing) is as fast as if you use your leadpages url. But then I think about the fact that if I'm paying for traffic, I'm actually boosting leadpages' SEO and not my own if I don't use the wp plugin. Also, leadpages is a platform with a recurring fee. If I decided to drop leadpages, I've basically lost all those landing pages.

So, I'm torn. Love the ease of use, features and speed but not so happy about seo and what happens if I opt out.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Julianna

Hi Julianna,

I have optimize press, but no experience with lead pages. I'm not totally following how you are boosting their SEO. Are you saying that they host the content?

I don't like the monthly fee aspect of things either.

I don't think you should over think any of it. Just get a squeeze page up. heck, use the MMM squeeze page. Anything will work. it's 90% about the call to action, and just making sure that your template's design does not get in their way.

If you have the content you can pay someone to create something for you for probably less than $50, if you really don't want to take the time.

But you don't need much. A simple white page, a video or some text, and an arrow point to an opt in box. If you have OP, that will do it and really should take more than an hour or two.

Let us know how you make out.

Hi guys,

I've had the chance to play around with Leadpages a little bit several months ago. Here's the details:

If you use their plugin, it loads their page so it looks like it's on your site - but it's sort of like a fancy iframe type deal, with the content streaming from their servers...so it should still be one of the faster pages on your site hopefully.

2. if you use their URL, it will be as fast as  possible. What I don't like about this option is that you can't cloak the URL (at least last I checked). So this means you'll be showing mike.leadpages.com (for example) as your URL. As John teaches with his squeeze pages - it's best if there's nowhere else for cold traffic to go - they could decide to check out leadpages.net and leave your page entirely.

3. I think Leadpages is good for their out of the box, pre-tested templates. They have also recently incorporated split testing and allow you to offer multiple freebies to the same list. This has proven to assist conversions...but it is fairly expensive. I think John is right to just get a squeeze page up and go from there. Upgrade when you've generated sales...we all tend to over think, and over complicate the process - money loves speed. Don't put leadpages as the thing you need to start making money...unfortunately (I'm talking from experience here) all that does is set you up to spend money on Leadpages and then think that there's something else that you just have to have before you can make money. You have what you need to get started...so just make it happen.  No offense meant - I'm offering this advice to myself as well as I tend to get bogged down in the details. John is right that we should outsource as much of this stuff as possible because we just get in our own way...

My two cents. If you have further leadpages questions - let me know.

Mike

Thanks Mike! I went with optimize press and I'm happy with the results... I had been using ptinstant and optimize press is MUCH easier... highly recommend...

Good to know Julianna - thanks for sharing. I have Profit Theme by the same company that makes PTInstant and for the price I paid I got a lot of value from it. Haven't had the chance to check out PT Instant...but thought it looked like a pretty good option.

This whole strategy hinges on landing pages...so if we don't have a way to whip one together rather quickly, we're handcuffing ourselves.  Glad to hear you have something that works for you!

ptinstant has more bugs than op, in my experience...
