Hey everyone:
What's up? I just joined this mastermind a few days ago, I just reviewed last month's lesson about building a Squeeze page. Great stuff! I started to design my squeeze page, just thought I would post it right here as it currently is:
Welcome Chris. Great to have you. Looks good in the screen shot. Only thing is you might make the subscribe button more prominent. Other than that it looks great from what I could see.
Having trouble with your marketing? Wish you could have an experienced direct-to-fan marketing expert look over your actual campaigns, music, or content and offer feedback? Or perhaps you’re just looking for a little one-on-one assistance so you can ask questions that pertain to your specific goals and get a second, more experienced, perspective? Yeah, so far I used the email form I had on my website, created using my newsletter service... ymlp "your mailing list provider."
Haven't yet figured out how to turn the subscribe button into an image for that.
Ah, so it's not Aweber? If not, you might just ask the service you are using. A big opt in button helps.

Cool. One thing though. Your button and opt in text is overlapping the main content area. You might need to shrink down what you have for the opt in code, and maybe center it. I think the funny look of it as is, might hurt conversions. Just my two cents.

Alright, so I launched my first squeeze page.
By the way, John, thanks for the help on yesterday's call. This first squeeze page doesn't really point out the piano / hip hop thing, but I had written it before our call, so I thought I would go with this first and also try out that idea. Also, the current download give away consists of 3 songs, only one of which is a hip hop song (if that matters).
I'm absolutely interested in creating a page that uses the piano / hip hop idea. What do you think of this one?
Thanks for the help!
I think it looks good, and it's a good start.
The POTENTIAL out-points to my mind are:
1. Your headline doesn't actually connect me with any pre-existing passions or the "conversation already taking place in my mind". It just says "refreshingly unique" which may not be enough. My mind goes, "unique in what way". For example if you said something more like "what if Beethoven was a Rapper?" Then you might get my attention. I'm just spit balling there, but you can see how the latter really locks into pre-existing images and potential passions, whereas the one you have would only do so if someone consciously sought after things that were "unique". It's more vague.
2. Your web form is floating a bit on the page. I think a thin border might help it pop a bit, and I think that you could probably center it more.
That said, I see nothing wrong with running some traffic to what you have and seeing what you get. Then you can test it against a new headline (or three) and go with the winner.
That make sense?

Definitely gets my attention more. I like it. Now you just need to run some traffic to it and see what happens. Create one ad for Beethoven fans and one for fans of rap and see what happens. If that particular headline doesn't work you might try another one that relates that idea to what your fans can potentially "experience", vs simply asking a question. Although I think the question is a good start.
It's a little bit of a leap from the question into getting a download, but see what happens before you make changes. I think it's a great headline for an ad as well. Use a portrait of Beethoven with that headline and I bet you get a good click through rate. You just need to make sure that there isn't too much of a gap from "why" people click on the ad and what they are ultimately offered when they get to your landing page.

Hey John:
I currently am offering a 3 song bundle: one piano piece, one hip hop piece, and one non-hip hop song ballad. I like this combination a lot in and of itself, yet I'm wondering if perhaps given the beeethoven-rap angle, maybe I should exchange the non hip hop song and put a hip hop one in its place. This could help reinforce the hip hop angle.
..I'm assuming this is the sort of thing you are referring to when you mention the gap from why people on the ad and they are offered. Yes?
Thanks
Hey Chris,
The gap I'm referring to is the gap between WHY a person clicked on an ad and WHAT you actually offer them when they land on your page. It was a real light bulb moment for me when I realized that when a person clicks on your ad they actually WANT you to deliver on the promise in your ad. So it's important that your squeeze page copy aligns with the promise in your ad.
For example, I have seen a lot of people create multiple ads that say something like "if you like a certain artist then check out me" (or whatever), but then they'll send people to a page that doesn't mention that artist at all and just starts a whole new line of thought. That's a gap, and that will lower conversions.
WHAT you actually offer them once they have signed up is only important in terms of your sales funnel. You just want to put your best foot forward and send them music that aligns with the brand you are trying to create and build desire for.

If the squeeze page is uploaded to the host, does it have to be assigned a distinct URL? What URL do we give to people to direct them to the squeeze page? If one does not yet have a website built, will it just default to the index.html file (the browser squeeze page) when people go to the primary domain address?
Did I just answer my own question?
Hi Taiji,
It looks like you might have answered your own question, but just to be thorough...
If you intend to have the squeeze page at the top level of the domain (which is recommended) then yes, just make sure the squeeze page is called index.html and upload it to the site via FileZilla FTP client.
Good luck!
Hey All:
It's been awhile since I've addressed the issue of my squeeze page and John's feedback that I go with the classical piano/rap angle, sort of "Beethoven meets Eminem." I like this angle and think it says a lot about me, at the same time I had some reservations that I'd appreciate some insight to help clear up so I can move forward. Mainly...
Though the classical/rap thing is pretty dead on the money in lots of ways, my last album wasn't a true classical/rap album... it's a love album, an album of love songs, and 4 of the songs are hip hop songs, and 4 of them are ballads. There really isn't a true "classical" song on there, although there are a few piano solos.
People generally notice and comment on my piano playing, at the same time, with the love album, some people think of me as "the romantic" artist. Though that doesn't fully capture what I do, either... it's a component of my music and my stage show, since obviously, I have other music I write and perform.
Anyway, I may be making this more complicated than it really is (though that has sometimes been a bad habit of mine!)... anyway, any insight from you John or from others on how to integrate these various factors, or whether I should just ignore them and just go with the classical/rap angle and see where it goes... much appreciated, thanks
Not being in the trenches with you I can only make a rather uneducated guess. But my feeling is that you should lead with the strongest hook. Or more importantly, whatever gets people into the funnel. From there you have time to change the conversation and move people in the direction of being receptive to the music you make. That said, if there is too much of a gap then it might be hard to ever make the leap. Certainly the best option would be to find a hook that was consistent with the music you actually make. But accuracy with no hook, might be worse. The single most important part of this funnel is the subscriber rate. You can have a lowsy funnel but still generate a good number of sales by just doubling your opt in rate. Conversely you can have a fantastic funnel that converts at 90%. But if no one is subscribing it still means zero income. Make sense?
