Here's a draft for my first press-release. Planning to go with the 20% discount offer from Johns interview. I'm not native English though, and I would love some feedback on this article. Any suggestions to make this better are more than welcome! Also, does it need more links or less links? Is the keyword density ok?

And the article is made-up completely. Just got 1 email from someone mentioning what I completely exaggerate below. Is that allright? Thought it was kind of funny...

Keywords: "relaxing songs" & "electronica artist"

--

Relaxing songs to make love to? Electronica artist Jap Jap doesn't want to know

Jap Jap, acclaimed producer of chillout electronic music, is pleased to announce the release of his new album "The Ever Expanding Light" set to appear this October, but a preview of the title-track seems to have triggered an unexpected buzz.

Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) July 20, 2011 - Ambient electronica artist Jap Jap - who has received praise from the likes of electronic pioneer Ulrich Schnauss for his otherworldly relaxing songs - has offered his fans a free download: the title track from his upcoming album "The Ever Expanding Light". Among the many messages he received, a certain unusual reaction seemed to surface, mostly referencing making love... The direct reference to sexual desire may seem somewhat far-fetched, but his music certainly has the right warm melodious and epic chillout vibe.

Inspired by the shoegaze, postrock and dreampop genre, Jap Jap produces melodious ethereal chillout electronica with the occasional processed guitars and signature style layered vocals. His debut release "Blue Shimmery Fall" was unofficially deemed as one of the best chillout releases of the year by net radio listeners and music critics.

Jasper states he doesn't really understand what it is about his music that resulted in public reactions like "I could do it all night listening to this", "What an amazing sexual vibe!" and "Is it just me or is this guy spreading pheromones?"

"It's fine if people want to listen to my music in their bedroom, but I don't really want to know..." says Jasper in a reaction on the subject. "I hope by the time I release my new album this media circus will have passed". It sure keeps us guessing: is it a hype or is there really some musical arousal technique involved? Numerous experiments have noted the relaxation potential of music, but Jap Jap might just be an interesting case-study for "the effects of music on physiological arousal: explorations into tempo and genre".

With over 17,000 listeners and more than 100,000 plays on UK-based Internet radio & music community website Last.fm, Jap Jap was discovered by podcasts and internet radio stations across the world, including soma.fm and loungeradio. Jap Jap's music was featured on the iPod User magazine cover mount CD and featured on popular online video creation-tool Animoto.com. Jasper appeared as a producers finalist in the most prestigious Dutch competition for undiscovered national artists: the Dutch Big Prize. Jap Jap remixed for Phoenix, Ulrich Schnauss, A Shoreline Dream, Keith Canisius, Dead Leaf Echo & Foals.

Ready to find out what emotions Jap Jap's relaxing songs will trigger in you? His latest track is available as a free download from http://japjap.net/free-track-download

There are a few minor grammatical changes that might need to be made:

  • "seemed to surface" should be "seems to have surfaced"
  • "warm melodious and epic" should be "warm, melodious, and epic" (needs commas)
  • in "shoegaze, postrock and dreampop genre" should be "genres"
  • "is it a hype" should be "is it hype"
  • "Jap Jap might just be" should be "Jap Jap just might be"
  • if several producers picked you as a finalist, it should read "producers' finalist"

Also, English speakers will assume the the "J" in "Jap Jap" is pronounced like the "J" in "Japan."

So after the first "Jap Jap," you might want to include: (pronounced "Yap Yap.")

Thank you so much Tim!
Great to have someone look at the grammar. Would hate this to look sloppy and unprofessional.

Still curious about the keyword and link density. Could this article have more links in them on other keywords, or is it better to just target the 2 keywords I chose? Are those keywords used enough etc.? Anyone with experience on this subject?

Also, do I get away with a pretty much made up article as I remember John saying: "don't lie..."
John, could you give your thoughts on this?

Hi Jap Jap......or is it Yap Yap????!!!  Tim's right about us English speakers!

I really enjoyed reading the press release, sounds like some pretty impressive stuff there. You did mention that it is completely exaggerated though, and personally I would be a bit nervous about that.

Many years ago I was considering signing with an agent in Seattle. He was working for one of the major agencies in town, and I was pretty excited about possibly working with him. He showed me a promo package for one of his acts, and it was very impressive.....sold out shows in Las Vegas, an appearance on the Tonight show with Johnny Carson, a long list of satisfied clients, quotes, etc. I was young and immpressionable, and my comment was something like "Wow! These guys must be really good!" His reply was "Naaah, they're just starting out. We'll put together some promo like that for you too!" My reply was "But I haven't done any of those things!"  He then told me not to worry, because "nobody really checks these things out."

I decided against signing with him, and it turned out to be a good thing. His big act didn't even make it through their first gig that he booked for them, and the agent wound up being fired by the agency and also got sued for quite a bit of money. It seems that his claims did get checked out, and it completely backfired on him.

Your release mentions several things that could easily be checked out. If they are completely exaggerated, like you said, and someone does start checking them out, I think you risk losing a huge amount of credibility. I hope I'm not sounding to critical here, but I would hate to see something like this turn on you like it did on my (almost) former agent!

What would a jam session with Gordon Lightfoot, Collective Soul, and Damien Rice sound like?

Check out Greg Parke and you’ll have a pretty good idea!

Greg, thanks for your thoughts on this. I understand your reasoning. I don't feel nervous actually, but I see your point…

It's hard for me to come up with an interesting angle to the article. I was looking for something unique and funny. I really want this to be noticed and I don't really have more ideas that aren't too cliché…

It's the "making love to my music" angle only that's greatly exaggerated. The rest are facts. Also I thought this is subjective,  something everyone feels differently about. In that way someone can say: "I don't agree", but not "This isn't true".

Or maybe some people here can post a quote from my press-release on my FB page? (I'll post back something nice) I'm sure that way I can start the buzz 😉

Hey Jap Jap

Ok, sorry, I guess I misunderstood! If the only thing that is greatly exaggerated is the "making love to my music" angle, and everything else is fact, then by all means, I would say go for it! IMO, it is very well written and held my attention, and the "making love" angle is subjective anyway, not a cold hard fact.

As far as checking out your statement........Hmmm. Maybe I better get a copy of your CD and do some "research". I can think of all kinds of pick up lines......"Hey baby, wanna help me do some product testing for this guy I met in the Insiders Circle"? Could be, uhhh, fun!

What would a jam session with Gordon Lightfoot, Collective Soul, and Damien Rice sound like?

Hey Jap Jap,

Finally have had a chance to get caught up and read through your press release. thanks for your patience.

I thought it was really well written.

A couple notes...

1. I would capitalize every word in your tile. And maybe end it with a ... (that's just a style thing. It's up to you).

2. Your keywords are on the cusp of being too competitive. But I still think "relaxing songs" is a good one and if you can afford to take the risk, I would still do it. But it may end up being competitive to the point of not getting you a significant ranking. There's no way to know until you give it a shot.

3. Your keyword "electronica artist" doesn't appear anywhere accept the first paragraph. I would add 1 or two more mentions of it. I would also add at least one more use of "relaxing songs"

4. I think the suggestion to include a pronunciation key for Jap Jap would be good. Americans will read it as Jap as in "Japanese". and "Jap" is a directory term for the Japanese. I don't think anyone will take offense to it without the pronunciation, because I think they will assume it means something different, but it can't hurt.

5. You might add some more related terms so that google sees your primary keyword "relaxing songs" as related to your content.

Here is what Google's related searches tool offers:

    chill songs
    soothing songs
    slow songs
    love songs
    calming songs

    best relaxing songs
    relaxing rock songs
    top relaxing songs
    most relaxing songs
    relaxing songs list

hide and seek by imogen heap
    enya
    hide and seek lyrics
    spa music
    you and me lyrics

    relaxing sounds
    relaxing images
    relaxing artists
    relaxing
    relaxing soundtrack

Just for clarification. Lets say that one related term was "relaxing soundtrack". While you might... you wouldn't necessarily need to use "relaxing soundtrack" in it's entirety. You could just use "soundtrack". You would still potentially pick up the long tail traffic that was related to "relaxing soundtrack" from broad searches with just the second part of the term, and obviously it would read as unnatural if you had 20 references to relaxing within your content.

Also, just to cover my ass. Always understand that there are risks associated with this stuff. Not every press release is going to be a winner. I would hate you to get a negative ROI on this and feel that you had been poorly advised.

Let me know if you need any clarification on anything.

One more thing…

I think you should try to add a link somewhere earlier in the content as well. Not everyone is going to read all the way down.

And despite the fact that I didn't do it in the training module, use the multimedia functions and add whatever additional content that you can. Videos, images, iframes of your site, etc.

Thanks for your view on this John! Actually "Relaxing songs" came up with Market Samurai (as suggested in MMM2.0), was some time ago already, so competition might have increased over the past year...?

Very helpful stuff, I didn't know to use these related terms. This seems like a great idea.

I understand there is always a risk involved. Just want to get the basics right so I make the best shot.

Greg, thanks for your reply too, seems like a good suggestion haha 😉

Cheers, Jasper

John, after revising the article I have 2 more questions.

- Where can I find "Google's related searches tool"? I can't seem to find the tool you used to come up with the list you typed.
- You say to add a link earlier in the contents. There is a link with anchortext for one of the main keywords to my website. Did you overlook this link or do you mean to add another link to the squeezepage earlier in the article? If so, would you do this in anchortext or just type out the link to the free download?

Thanks again, you're input has been very helpful!

Jasper

Ps. Jap Jap is indeed pronounced Yap Yap here in the Netherlands. There is a comment on my Last.fm: "Is this guy a racist or something?". Never thought about this and now it's too late to change my name... Well, I guess it sticks with people right now 🙂

I wouldn't worry about sombody making the comment about you being "a racist or something". It shows that people are reading your stuff, and opens the door for others to discuss, argue and defend whether you are, or aren't, and that is free publicity!

I have a fairly uncommon spelling for my last name. Usually it is spelled Park, or people want to add to it and make it Parks or Parker. That made it harder for people to find my website when they misspelled my last name. I turned that to an advantage by using the opportunity to joke about my last name to help drive it into peoples memory, and gave me a good excuse to talk about my website (and now my squeeze page!)

I came up with a joke that made people think ("I can't tell you what my last name is spelled backwards over the microphone") People's attention focus on my stage flyer with my name on it for a few seconds and then I see smiles and chuckles from the audience as they figure it out. I almost always notice an increase in CD sales and people picking up business cards, and visits to my website when I use this tactic. That makes me wonder.....John, have you used any tricks in the past to get people to remember your last name? I still have trouble spelling it. I can't remember where it was, but awhile ago I came across an article about MMM, and some people were argueing about how to pronounce your last name!

What would a jam session with Gordon Lightfoot, Collective Soul, and Damien Rice sound like?

You're right, I shouldn't worry, people will know it's not ment this way. Like all of you too...

Luckily my name is simple, cause when I chose it I didn't think about that at all. The double use of the word makes it unique (try Google) and the connection to Japanes (although not ment and intentional) helps keep it top of mind.

Pretty inventive joke you came up with, I had to think about it for a sec as well 🙂 Great idea to make people aware of your name,  and have them take a moment to actively remember. Good thinking.

I still don't know how to spell oszjacka (this is what I come up with when I don't look it up) even though I've seen this name spelled over a 100 times by now. That's because people see a word and in an instant know what it is referring to, so no need to study for the masses. But ask them to retype it and they can't. Luckily for you John, Google helps a bit with suggestions if you come close to it. But you could have chosen a better artist-name 😉

You can find the related search function in the left side bar after you eprform a search on Google. Click teh "more" tab and scroll down a bit.

I saw two links at the bottom of the article. If you have a 3rd one somewhere around the middle of the article or earlier then that's fine. Maybe I missed it.

Yeah, mine is the worst. When people see it they never forget it, but when they hear it, they don't make the connection to how it's spelled. I've often thought the name was a problem from a branding standpoint, but at the end of the day, a stage name never quite felt right. Whatareyougonnado?
