Landing Page Bootcamp 2021

It’s been a year or so since the last Landing Page Page Boot Camp, and with so many new members I thought it was time to do another one.

To clarify... this primarily means we will be focusing on squeeze pages. However, as the MMM strategy has broadened over the last few years to include things like the "free for shipping and handling model", "crowd funding", streaming, etc, you are welcome to submit any sort of landing page where you send COLD traffic.

Landing Page Bootcamp is an opportunity to submit your squeeze page (or other landing page) for review, and I will record my feedback and share it in an upcoming Insider Circle lesson.

This is helpful for a couple reasons. Not only does it allow you to directly get feedback on your landing page, but because multiple landing pages will be reviewed rapidly in sequence, it should really help to strengthen your understanding of what makes a good landing page and to highlight common winning elements as well as mistakes.

Here’s what you need to do…

1. Post the URL to your landing page below, as a reply to this thread.

2. I also need to know your primary target audience, age range, and location. Please do not post dozens of potential target audiences, just your top one or two ideal audiences. The main targets who you think should be a slam dunk. Please keep things brief.

3. If you feel like posting your current conversion rate that would also be helpful. This is optional.

Here’s what you need to know…

Reviews will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and I can only guarantee reviews of the first ten pages submitted. If I can review more I will, but the “official” limit is 10 reviews to ensure I can spend as much time as needed on each. However, if demand is high enough I might split this into two lessons, so please feel free to submit your URL even if you’re not one of the first 10.

IMPORTANT: It is important to be aware that I will be offering constructive criticism in this lesson. As such, much of what I say may not be what everyone wants to hear. I will of course try to be kind and gentle wherever possible, but I don’t believe anyone is served if I pull any punches. So if you have thin skin, or are not comfortable with your landing page being shared and discussed in this context, then I would perhaps not submit your URL for this exercise.

It does not matter if your site is doing bad or good. Either way, this is a chance for you to get some extra perspective on your site.

I will be recording the video soon, so be sure and submit your URL as soon as possible.

As always, this should be a lot of fun, and thanks for being part of the lesson.

Having trouble with your marketing? Wish you could have an experienced direct-to-fan marketing expert look over your actual campaigns, music, or content and offer feedback? Or perhaps you’re just looking for a little one-on-one assistance so you can ask questions that pertain to your specific goals and get a second, more experienced, perspective? Hey John. I'm still working on my funnel and haven't gotten to the advertising part of MMM5 yet (so I haven't sent any traffic to it yet or defined my audience). But if its ok, I wanted to take this opportunity to send you my current working squeeze page to get your thoughts on it.

Here's the URL: https://thereiffodyssey.com/fu.....EVIEW_ONLY

As I said, I haven't put together my target audience yet or even watched the MMM5 lesson on it, but I would probably send my send my squeeze page to fans of Pet Sounds or Sgt Peppers, or fans of David Lynch/ Salvador Dali. I would try people in their late 20's to mid 30's, and target in U.S.A. or Canada.

Thank you very much!

Hi John, thank you for this opportunity

Squeeze page:

https://rickyohrn.com/squeeze-page

My target demographic is Offspring & Motley Crue.

Age range is all possible. Location United States and Canada so far.

I cant tell you the conversion rates because Facebook wont let me set up the pixel correctly, so the 2 campaigns I did was wasted so far even though I got a few leads from it but no sales, but I really would like your pointers on this so far until I can figure out what to do about fb

Hi John,

Here is my squeeze page: https://randomparade.com/muckl.....-download/

I have struggled a bit finding the right audience and getting decent click through rates.

The last dynamic creative ad I ran went to three audiences:

Fans of The Killers - over 30 - USA - UK - AUS     CTR 1.81%   Cost per conversion    $10.27
Fans of The Cure - over 30 - USA - UK - AUS        CTR 2.08%   Cost per conversion   $5.86
Fans of The National - over 30 - USA - UK - AUS  CTR 2.24%   Cost per conversion    $3.01

Brutal honesty welcome and appreciated 🙂

Thanks.

Hi John, thanks! We're working on this in another forum thread, but I've made some changes (numbers are looking much better now) and would love to hear your thoughts.

Squeeze URL: http://bandcontent.com

FB Ad Targeting: 24+, US/AU/NZ/UK/CA/DE/IRE, interests (each in different ad set): The Clash, Talking Heads, Midnight Oil, Devo.

The conversion rate based on the FB Ads stats is at 16%, but this seems a bit lower than actual. Using the number of new signups in TunePipe, conversion is around 26%, so somewhere between 16-26%.

Thanks,

Jacob

Hi John ! This is a great initiative. I am just at the point where I need some help improving my landing page, so this couldn't have come at a better time! And anyone else in this thread feel free to comment. Here is the landing page:

http://thisisandrewjohnstonmus.....e-music-2/

I have run ads targeting the following audiences:

Traffic:

25-65 US Canada, Tom Petty - CTR 6%, cost per result 0.13

25-65 US Canada, Jackson Brown - CTR 4.53% , cost per result 0.23

Conversions:

25-65 US Canada, Arcade fire - CTR 3.7, no conversions

25-65 US Canada, War on drugs - CTR 2.95%, no conversions

25-65 US Canada, Blue Rodeo - CTR 2.43%, 1 conversion

So far I've spent about $150 on fb ads and I have 8 subscribers to show for it. Some of the ideas I have to improve my results:

- Is the font size too small on the squeeze page

- in the fb ads maybe i can use a smiling image with a circle around it, and maybe one of my images could feature me playing live.

- do I need to hone down my audience? Tom Petty is a little too broad potentially, but I find it hard to find lower level artists such as Jesse Malin in the fb audience interests.

Hey John -

Awesome you're doing this again - I didn't submit last year...actually, I'd been meaning to put this landing page together for a few months, and your email motivated me to sit down and do it.

This is hosted on my band's website, and someone could technically click the menu bar, and leave the landing page.  So I'm gonna probably re-create this inside Aweber's landing page builder...maybe there's a way in Wordpress to just eliminate the menu bar for this particular page, which would be easier.

But I wanted to submit the idea anyway - I know it's a strange giveaway, but I'm very curious if people would be interested in this.

Haven't even tried it yet, as I only built it yesterday...also, I didn't integrate the "email-opt in" form yet, so the "submit to download" button would technically be the Aweber sign-up form.

Target audience is 21 - 50.

Gamers, nerds, indie-pop/synth-pop fans

1, https://www.picoinfinity.com/peace2

2, Over 25,  US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand

Target audience : This one was tough as what I do is VERY unique and I couldn't find any similar artists who have enough audience

This one worked the best so far;

Those who love the Japanese movies from Studio Ghibli (the theme songs of the movies have similar vibes, and the fans tend to love Japanese music)

3, conversion rate 21% from the campaign in July 2021

The reviews have now been done and you can find the bootcamp in two parts under the "monthly training" tab. Than you to everyone who submitted.

Awesome, thanks John! Really appreciate the feedback – on my own page, and everyone else's. I'm only through the first video, but there was useful stuff in all the analyses you provided.

Happy to hear anyone else's thoughts on the 'Content' vs 'Jacob Kinniburgh' thing...

Regarding the headline criticism, I think you were spot on. I'll work on it and do some testing. As a starting point, is the following language evocative/clear enough:

With lyrics that speak to a life of rumination, outsider-ness, depression and dissatisfaction with the way things are, and music that sounds like it was dug up out of the ground (in a good way) consuming some Content is a great way to adjust your mood on a nice sunny day to a more appropriate outlook, or a good thing to do on the train while avoiding others' gaze...

Just trying to work out whether I should repurpose and re-arrange the ideas there, or start from scratch... I think it's clearer, but maybe not enough?

Thanks as always,

Jacob

Glad to hear you enjoyed the lesson Jacob.

I think there is some good stuff in there. I like "dug up from the ground in a good way" and "a good thing to do on the train while avoiding others' gaze" and also like that you say some specific things such as what your lyrics speak to. But string together like that it gets a bit confusing and tangled up; harder to decipher. I also personally trip up again on "consuming some Content" it would never be clear to me that you were referring to your artist name. I think you are playing with the words intentionally there but it really seems subtle and like an inside joke, at least to me.
