Greetings,

I'm putting together my mobile squeeze page and I'm wondering if I should set it up the same way my web one is. Meaning, after they join should I have them opt-in or should I turn the opt-in off for mobile sign ups only? That way since they're right in front of me(so to speak) I can cut out the opt-in email and they can go directly to the download thank you page.. They will also get an immediate follow up email with a download link as well just in case they have a problem downloading to their phone.

Thoughts?

I feel better having the double opt-in (if that's what you mean). I have my mobile Aweber form set up the same way that my web one is. You will lose people with the double opt-in. My philosophy is that those who are serious won't have a problem confirming.

I try to be accomodating to those who surf on their phones, but I'm not sure that I would change things that much. If they can't double opt-in, are they going to read your followup emails? I'm skeptical. I haven't tested it both ways, which is really what you should do if you want to be sure, but my intuition is to keep the processes the same.

I hope I understood your question correctly.

Yeah, there are two schools of thought on this. As a marketer who markets to the internet marketing crowed and they'll tell you to turn it off. I don't think that's the best practice for music. Like Charley said, it does cut down on confirmations when you use double opt ins, but having it on increases your chances of a good long term deliverability rate.

Basically, if your funnel is designed to make profits quickly then I think it might make sense to turn off the double opt in. But if your positive ROI is only hit after additional promotions and sales, I'd probably leave it on. Regardless of whether its mobile or not.

The only time I turn it off is on some PPC traffic where I know people are clicking out of curiosity and I have a lot of resistance to quickly overcome.

I guess I'd just walk yourself through the user's experience and assumed mind set and ask yourself what makes the most sense, given that you risk deliverability going down if you have double opt in off. Though that is a much debated fact as well.

I tried to build this today but my Wordpress site uses index.php so I could not edit the html.Confused

The video mentions how to approach a site with index.php but doesn't clearly explain it - has this been explained anywhere in the forum?

Thanks

Pete

Hi Pete,

It's been a while since i watched the lesson down but I felt it was pretty clear about how to install it on Wordpress. Is it possible you didn't get to that part? I'll ask Scott to chime in.

Hey Pete,

You can just upload it in a folder. So create a folder and name it whatever you want to extension of the URL to be and then upload that to the root of the domain. So let's say you name the folder 'free-download'. The URL will then be yourdomain.com/free-download/.

Thanks for replying Scott.

I should have been more precise - there is a string of code that checks the browser size that goes inside the header section of index.html.

Because I have a Wordpress site it has index.php instead - where, and in which file, and how do I edit the php so that it has the necessary code so it checks the browser to see if its on a mobile device and use the HTML file inside the folder you talked about?

Thanks for your prompt help with this :)

Pete

Hey Pete,

No prob. This setup actually isn't designed to work directly in Wordpress. Wordpress dynamically generates pages that will generally all share the same header. So you could put the code in the header.php file, but that would redirect every page of your site to the squeeze page on a mobile device. So this setup is designed for a single html squeeze page that redirects to a mobile version. You can use the html page on a site with a Wordpress install though.

My apologies Pete. I was totally wrong. I got my wires crossed with a different lesson. It's been a while since I recorded this. Sorry.

Scott, is there a plugin that someone could install that would allow them to apply the code to a specific page?

Pete: Also keep in mind that if you are using the MMM Wordpress theme it is already mobile responsive. I don't think it's quite as powerful as the template used in this lesson because this template gives you more control and allows you to edit the content to be shorter than what would be displayed in a normal browser, but it it's still mobile friendly and should get you 90% of what you're looking for.

There aren't any plugins that I've used myself, but it looks like this might do the trick: http://wordpress.org/plugins/p.....ge-add-to/

Just as a disclaimer, I've never used this plugin and can't vouch for it, so proceed with the usual caution that should be applied to unknown plugins and back up your database first if you choose to use it.

Thanks John & Scott - makes sense now!

I am using the MMM theme (which is great).

Sorry I wasn't clear with the initial post.

Thanks for helping me figure this out :) Laugh
