This month’s lesson is a very special one for me, I’m joined by internet marketing “guru” Chris Rempel. Chris is the author of the Lazy Marketer and dozens of other marketing related books, courses, and products. He also happens to be the guy who taught me everything I know about online marketing.
His book/course, the Lazy Marketer, was the first online marketing book I ever truly connected with. The rest is history. So he’s kind of a hero of mine 🙂
I’ve recently had the pleasure of getting to know Chris and a recent conversation sparked the idea of having him join us here in the Insider Circle to talk about what it takes to build your list fast and profit from it over the long haul. After all, that’s the million dollar question… literally.
Chris really knows his stuff. The guys makes over 500k a year and he isn’t even 30 years old. I hope you guys get as much out of this as I did.
Make sure you download his report "Rapid List Profits". It normally sells for $20 but he's giving it to everyone in the Insider Circle for free. the link is below the training video.
If you have any questions about the lesson, this is the place to ask them.

Thanks, John. I got a lot out of that one.
Highlights for me: "Your list is an audience. Envision yourself on a stage, speaking in front of all those people that have expressed interest in what you know. Let your personality shine through every email."
And do I feel like an idiot, or what, for not seeing the potential of forum marketing as an actual strategy?! I'm going to think about joining some that fit the demographic of my fans, but aren't necessarily music forums, simply because the music forums listed at http://www.big-boards.com/ aren't close to my genre. Just thinking out loud...

You might also look into musician forums (ideally Jazz). I'm not 100% sure if musicians are big buyers of other musicians stuff, but I have seen a lot of really active musician forums out there that allow sigs. Might be worth a try.

Not to get off topic, but I have been using forums to connect with musicians for a few years now. It's probably one of my favorite methods of reaching people. Mostly because blatant promotion is generally frowned upon and it's more or less a contribution exchange, much like this one. Super easy to create curiosity or have people take an action to find out more about something, which is perfect for getting people to a squeeze page. It's also a great way to get a feel for what people would like to be exposed to.
It can be a lot of work and time consuming, but that's where leveraging the sig file comes into play. You just have to find forums that allow links in the sig file.
Hi John:
I just listened to this interview and it ROCKED. Great information to jar my head and have me think differently about growing my email list.
I liked hearing from Chris, thanks for bringing him over here. Also, the joint venture idea, and how you work with Chris, is a great reminder of what's possible when we think about win-win ways of helping each other.

Awesome, glad you enjoyed it. Chris really is a mentor of mine. The guy is brilliant, and very good at what he does.

Hi John,
Really enjoyed this lesson as I'm primarily starting out and focused on how to generate some free traffic. I was curious about the approach - is one idea to post in popular relative forums where one's squeeze page is listed in the signature? Chris mentioned during the interview that it would be good to have one's main site be listed in the signature and then possibly funnel traffic to the squeeze page, or some signup mechanism from his site. My question is that would this later approach be better applicable for musicians? The reason is that we'll build more street cred this way, without coming off too "spammy" (?) while first posting to these forums.
Thanks again and looking forward to some feedback.

Hey Peter,
Glad you enjoyed it. You could certainly try either approach, but my inclination would be to link directly to your squeeze page in the sig. Linking to your site would defeat the purpose in my opinion because the typical musicians web site really does a lot to satisfy curiosity with all of it's content and then lose the prospect forever. I think you would do much better sending people directly to a squeeze page. HOWEVER, there should be nothing spammy about it at all. The idea is to become an authentic part of the forum and offer real value with your posts. So much so that people click your link for even more value. You definitely don't want to be coming off as spammy or posting things that are promotional in tone.
I have used forum marketing to generate thousands of leads in teh years past, but I haven't played with it much in the music space, or at all in several years. Funny enough though, a fellow IC member just mentioned that he's been doing well with forum marketing in the fan forums of other similar artists. So it's definitely worth trying.

Thanks so much for the tips John! Would you have a link to the thread(s) regarding the other IC members having success in forum posts? it would be great to hear about their experiences.

You know, with so many threads it's not something I can easily find. But it was a fairly recent thread I was thinking about. If I see it pop up again I'll come back and post the link.

Hey Peter, this was the thread I was thinking of: https://www.mmmanifesto.com/in.....ing-thread
It's by no means a tutorial on Forum Marketing, but Jon mentions that he has seen traffic coming from Forums. You might inquire...
