Has anyone had any experience with getting songs on Pandora?
It seems like it would be one of the best ways to reach new listeners as it is
already targeted traffic. Obviously, there is no immediate call to action etc,
but at least you are getting people who are more prone to like your music and
they would probably investigate if they found your music interesting.
I looked into getting my songs onto it a while ago and they wanted like $20 just
to review your song; it did not guarantee that it would be accepted, so at the time
I said, "Screw this, I'll just keep using Jango for now."
I don't have Pandora so I've only really seen it in action recently at the place I've been
running sound for and I'm interested in how accurately it will pick songs and how it
can sometimes surprise you with something you didn't think about belonging to a similar
"sound family" if you will.
Maybe if no one has done this, it could be a monthly training module.
Its really cool. You type in what genre or artist you want to listen to and it plays songs from that genre/artist and other they think you will like. I think its the shit. I love it. It is a GREAT way to find new music. They actually do play quite a lot of indie artists.
My music has gotten a significant amount of love from Pandora. But only from one song. They have songs from all of my albums. So, probably 35+ songs ...and 90% of the activity I get is from one song. -And its not a song that I would necessarily call my best. I think it must just fit well with the channels they have it on...im not sure. I share this because I would LOVE to figure out how and why its working for one song so I can get that attention for the others. But, so far I haven't been able to.

How did you get your songs onto it? How much did it cost?
I don't remember it costing anything. But you do have to setup an account on Amazon.com. - I think they use that as their link to buy albums. You just send it in and wait. They analyze the music and take note of a lot of descriptors and categorize each song. So, it can take a long while.
Here's what they say:

A year or so ago I submitted two albums of an artist that I was working for to Pandora. His newer album was accepted but older one wasn't. I did have to set up an Amazon account which cost something. (Don't remember how much). So there is no guarantee that they will take your music.
Thanks guys, this was really helpful.
PS: I also did not mean to start this under the Monthly Training heading, I just
meant for it to be its own topic. I goofed...
That's all good to know. My stuff is in there but I always assumed the labels did it. I've never personally looked into it.
Coincidentally, I had a member ask me about getting into the Shazam app database. I contacted them and it's basically the same. Just submit and they will scan it. No costs or Amazon affiliation needed.

Yeah, I have my music on Pandora. I do get quite a bit of love there, plus I enjoy the little boost on my BMI statement (or maybe it's SoundExchange...don't remember at the moment...probably SoundExchange, now that I think about it...).

Fortunately, I got mine on a year or two ago. I've heard it's getting harder. It was well worth the effort. It has been much better than Last.FM and other such places. Speaking of which...
My droid phone came with "Slacker." So I started to think...hmmmm...would be nice to get my music there too. Anyone have their music on Slacker?
