Hey John and all,

Couple questions I'd like to run by y'all.

I've got a big show at a great venue in my hometown coming up and I'm trying to drum up some press. I have a reasonably interesting story, and I do have a follow and some name recognition here.

1) Does it make any sense at all to use PRweb to try and promote a regional event? I'm willing to give it a try, but I wonder what your thoughts on that are.

2)I got GREAT media contact list from the venue (that they don't even want me to talk about) and I plan on contacting everyone on it immediately. Is it a good idea to link or attach a press release to a "pitch letter" as Siri seemed to be suggesting? If so, is that easily accomplished with a press release posted on PRweb? Does it look professional to do that?

3)Lastly, I'm still on the fence about presenting myself as a PR person, or as myself. Honestly, I leaning towards a persona right now, because I've had far my success whenever I'd had someone (anyone) representing me. But I'd love to hear any further thoughts on that.

Oh, and this show is a month away, so I need to do this, like last week. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Cheers,

eliot

Hey Eliot,

I have another interview with the owner of onlineprnews.com where she specifically talks about using  press releases to promote live shows. Unfortunately that won't be ready for another week or so.

My opinion is that you might skip PR Web for just a single show.

My feeling is that you would do better pitching the specific journalists you mentioned for something like this.

If you have a little money to throw around you could try onlineprnews.com. They come recommended as a cheaper alternative (Go with the $70 option). But with press releases, the biggest benefit is from search engine traffic so you want to target both individuals and journalists from a search engine perspective. IE, local search related keywords in your title and body.

If you do go with onlineprnews use coupon code PDMSGAXE - That is for Insider Circle members and will get you 20% off a one time order. But again, I would look at a press release like this as a great thing, but not necessarily a slam dunk in terms of ROI, just because local search volume is always so limited.

What Siri was talking about in terms of attaching a press release would just entail including a copy of your press release as an attachment. Not necessarily a link to a press release site. Although I don't think there would be a problem in doing it that way.
