Great lesson John. How do I use this script when split testing a page on my wordpress.org site? Do I upload the script the same way via FTP? Or do I need a wordpress plugin? Thanks.

Thanks Arif, Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, you would just upload it via your FTP client like you would any file. Just make sure you don't accidentally overwrite anything and name it something unique. Let me know how you make out with it.

Thanks John. I'm on a Mac and the script isn't working in my Safari browser on my laptop or my iphone. It does work in Firefox and Google chrome. Do you know if the script needs to be modified for it to work in Safari?

Hey Arif, good question. It hasn't come up before. Let me check with my developer, Scott, and get back to you.

Hi John. Well I uploaded the script and it seems to be working properly when I check the Aweber stats.  Go figure.  I'm curious though about what Scott has to say.  Thanks again!

Hey Arif,

I failed tor remember at the time of posting that I used a different developer for the split testing script. He was a freelancer and I can't seem to reach him. Happy to hear that it seems to be working though. Can I get the link so I can test it on safari and see what happens for me?

Hey Arif,

Finally got to the bottom of it. As far as I can tell it's just a cache issue for some people. It works fine in Safari for us but we did have to clear the cache to get it to redirect. But that won't be an issue because we don't expect individual users to ever be clicking on the same link twice. It's more about evenly dispersing the traffic to variations of the page. For that you shouldn't have any issues at all. See if you can't duplicate that with a test.

John,

I think you're right except I'm looking at some strange results in Aweber.  It shows one page getting 70 visits and the second page has 55 visits.  they were neck and neck until about 20 each then it started to split apart.  Unless some people were visiting a few times in Safari?  Not sure.  Ideas?

Arif

Could possibly be the fact that it's posted here, I was clicking on it, as were you and Scott. Not sure though. It could also be fans sharing the link somewhere. One share on Twitter could throw off those stats like that easily. You might want to reset the stats and let it run to make sure all is back to where it should be. But so long as both numbers continue to grow I wouldn't sweat it too much. You'll always need to do a few calculations manually.
