Hey John,

i might have missed this, but when you first post a video ad, besides country, are you still targeting with interests, or are you just throwing out as big a net as possible to see who bites?

Thanks!

Alright. I'm going to try to apply it. I'm running a video ad to see what kind of numbers I come up with... .

Hi Jason,

Steve here.  Sorry, we must have missed your question in the thread.  Sorry about that.

Yes, you definitely still want to target interests.

Let us know how you make out.

Hey Jason and Mark,

So sorry, I missed this one somehow. It did not come up in my unread posts for some reason. Really sorry about that.

I would still use interest targeting. However I would probably try and cast somewhat of a wider net than usual, depending on what you are trying to do.

If you have a good handle on your audience then you can run an ad to your best target interest and hope that that the video ad will narrow it down even further. if you don't have a handle on your audience you might try adding a bunch of target interests so that Facebook's algorithm has more to work with than just one user profile.

Does that make sense?

I did pretty good. I ended up with an international audience and the metrics were great.

It appears that when crating a lookalike audience, it now requires at least 100 emails from a specific country. I'm pretty sure I have far more than the 100 required but still get the error. Anyone else run into this? Is it just a matter of waiting it out for a day or 2?

BTW, my custom audience was not created from a pixel, but instead from my email list.

best,

Jason

Hi Jason,

Steve here.  John is out for the weekend, but I'll make sure he gets a look at your question so that we can get you on track with this process.

Thanks for your patience in the meantime.

Hi Mark,

I was aware of the limitation but I have never run into an error message. If you are confident that you have the requisite number of emails on your import then I would contact Facebook through your ad manager to ask them what is causing the error. It may just be that you don't have the requisite number of contacts. Creating a lookalike audience based on subscribers (or better yet customers) is a great way to go as well. I have covered that in past lessons. I just thought that the video lookalike audience was a great alternative for people who don't have those subscribers yet. And often a video engagement audience will convert better than general subscribers. But a customer list is always gold.
