Hey

So I asked John about ideas to get singles sold. I have been trying to take my songwriting to the next level. He mentioned Patreon. I heard about Patreon a few years ago, but I don't know how to incorporate it. How do you compete with the big Youtube names?

Best,

Mark

Hi Mark,

My apologies for the slow response. I've been largely offline for the holidays. Just getting back to work now.

The important thing to remember with all of these platforms is that they are just sales platforms. The process really isn't that different whether you are using Patreon, Kickstarter, CD Baby, or taking orders from your own site. The only real difference is how you process the customers. Youtube has nothing to do with it and you are not really in competition with anyone. You are creating relationships and growing your tribe, one fan at a time, but with the help of automation.

So in other words, you would do everything exactly the same, but when you ask for a sale, you would pitch a Patreon campaign instead of a stand alone purchase of an album. For me that would mean creating a landing page that would have a video and some copy on it, and a link or button that took people to your Patreon order page (which would also have sales copy on it). However you could get away with just sending people to a Patron campaign directly from an email.

Hope that helps.

Hello John

That makes sense.  It makes even more sense when I realize that it's  a process. It all starts with the beginning of the funnel-- just saw the refresher video. I just need to make sense of that and decide on work that I want to give away. I have been doing a lot of drafts -- some finished songs-- the last few years. Thanks.

Best,

Mark
