Hello John,

Is my USP Any Good?” is good. Especially the ideas of saying it aloud starting with “Hey, check out…”

What I think are my most unique selling propositions in order of unique-ity are:

  1. The kind of songs I present and write in their mixture of old acoustic blues from the 20s and 30s, very old Anglo/Celtic/American folk songs and my way of blending all three
  2. The instruments I play and how well I play them.
  3. my background.

I know this is for me but there must be a good reason you feel it should be expressed as succinctly as possible. Which of the following three whittle-downs interest you most?

Take 1.

Hey, check out David Nigel Lloyd… He’s a Kenyan-born Englishman from northern California who sings old blues, even older British folk songs, and his own songs about life as he sees it — sometimes all at the same time. A finger-style acoustic guitarist who also accompanies himself on the unique 8-stringed octar, DNL has been described as “an iconoclastic loner of acid folk.”

Take 2.

Hey, check out David Nigel Lloyd… “an iconoclastic loner of acid folk.” He sings old blues, even older British folk songs and and his own songs about life as he sees it — sometimes all at the same time. He accompanies himself on acoustic finger-style guitar and the 8-stringed octar.

Take 3.

Hey, check out David Nigel Lloyd… a singer songwriter rooted in the mid 60s Brit & acid folk traditions. His songs are often overlaid on old blues and even older British folk songs. He plays finger-style acoustic guitar and the unique 8-stringed octar.

Since my upcoming album is about a guitar and the famous musician/s who played the guitar, do I need a separate USP for it? I’ve only got a first draft for now. (a) is it necessary? (b) what seems unique and interesting?

Director’s extended cut:

Hey, check out David Nigel Lloyd. His new album, Of Service in Rosemary Lane, is a response to an album recorded 50 years ago by the late great Scottish singer/guitarist Bert Jansch: Rosemary Lane. Using an acoustic guitar on-loan from the Bert Jansch Foundation, DNL showcases his own take on Bert’s use of blues and British finger-style playing to frame a distinct and simpler manner of singing. The albums 10 songs show the influence of Bert’s former Edinburgh flatmate Robin Williamson, co-founder of the Incredible String Band, whose songs influenced John Lennon, Led Zeppelin, and Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Thanks a Million!

Hey David,

I personally like "Hey, check out David Nigel Lloyd… “an iconoclastic loner of acid folk.” He sings old blues, even older British folk songs and and his own songs about life as he sees it — sometimes all at the same time. He accompanies himself on acoustic finger-style guitar and the 8-stringed octar."

It combines all the best parts, is succinct, and clear.
