A small glitch in the forum?

Hey John,

This isn't anything major, but I have noticed a small glitch in the forum. I always click on the " # Topics with unread posts" in the upper right corner when I check into the forum. (I like to read them all!)

I have noticed however, that as I go through the list of unread posts, if I take a few minutes to respond to a post, when I return to the list of unread posts, it shows as 0, even though I haven't read them all. In the early days of the forum, it wasn't to hard to go back and find the unread posts, but it's getting a little harder to do, now that the forum is growing!

Not sure if anything can be done about this, but I wanted to let you know.

What would a jam session with Gordon Lightfoot, Collective Soul, and Damien Rice sound like?

Check out Greg Parke and you’ll have a pretty good idea!

I have also noticed this.  On 2 occasions I was going through the unreads when there were quite a few, but then I had to leave the house or something, but I left the browser open.  When I returned I would read the next and find that there were none when there were just quite a few.  Strange.

Thanks for letting me know guys. I haven't been able tro duplicate this but I'll look into it. Are you talking about the link that takes people to https://www.mmmanifesto.com/in.....m/newposts

The forum is a simple press forum. I'll see what I can find out.

If anyone else is experiencing this please let me know.

That's the one, John.

On the top right where it says unread posts, you'll see a number.  If you leave the forum open (in my case 35- 40 minutes) then click that link, it will take you to the newposts page only to find no new posts.  The top right will indicate 0 unread posts even if you haven't read them.  Could have something to do with browser caching... who knows?

It's happened to me twice.

Yes John, that is the link.  I have had this same problem.  I was wondering (as a former programmer)

if the number is mistakenly the number of unread posts, but this may not be the problem

because once I click the icon to see which forums have unread posts, the number of forums

always seems to match.

Thanks guys. I've posted a few questions in the simple press support forum and will see if I can get to the bottom of it. It must somehow be cache related because not everyone is experiencing it. But I can see how that would be irritating. Hopefully I'm sure I can solve this for you guys.

Hi John,

It looks like this glitch is back? Only this time much faster. There were four unread posts listed, I took a quick look at the first one, maybe 30 seconds, and when I went back to find the rest of the unread posts, it shows zero. I'll check it again tomorrow, hopefully it was just a burp in the program

Hey Greg,

I've been doing research on this and can't seem to find much information. It did happen to me once as well so I've seen what you're talking about. Thankfully it seems to be pretty rare. There is an update for the forum platform but it's still in Beta and I don't want to mess with things until it's stable. Keep me posted if you continue to experience the bug though.

Hi John,

Yeah, it's still happening, almost every time now!  I was away for the forum for a few days, and when I checked in there were 20 unread posts. I got to read 5 of them before the rest got dumped. I think I will just start writing down the list when I first check in so I don't keep missing posts. Hopefully they will get this fixed with the new platform.

So, what's the weather like in New Zealand this time of year? As soon as Christmas is over, I'm about ready to head out for anyplace, as long as it's warm!

Sorry to hear it's happening for you so regularly. I've only seen it once or twice and it was always on occasions where I left the forum open for hours without actually checking anything. I wonder if it's related to your browser somehow. As soon as the new update is out of beta I'll get it up. Sorry about the hassle.

Hi John,

I am having that same problem again almost every time I log in. Any news on the new update yet? This isn't a major problem unless it is happening to everybody...I can always just write a list of the new posts when I first log in.

BTW, I just wanted to thank you again for the Viral Music Player. It kicks ass!!!! I'm getting very good responses

Hey Greg,

I'm sorry to hear you're still having the issue. It must be annoying. I'm not able to duplicate that unless I leave the new post page open for a few hours. And I haven't heard many reports of this from others (just the two above). Still, it did happen to me once and if it's happening to you it's almost certainly happening to others. I will try to get on that update.

One temporary fix is to open the new post page but when you click on new posts just right click and select "open in a new window". That way your new post page is always there and nothing will disappear on you until you are done checking everything out. Annoying I know, but it will solve the issue for you for now.
