Hello again,

I think that the reason I haven't created a custom conversion or anything yet (as discussed in the other thread) to track album sales is because I never did the 'upsell' part of the training, as I'll be going down the patreon route.

I also hadn't created seperate success pages for subscribers and album sales, but I've just created a new success page for people who have bought my album.

All I did was create a new page on wordpress, copy and pasted the text from the other success page, selected 'sales pipe no comments' and I'm pretty sure I'm good to go with that one ? Do I need to do anything else to that page? The pixel will automatically collect info from that page without me doing anything related to that, to the page won't it?

In terms of what else I need to change in relation to that, it's just the confirmation success page, at the end of the 'Karen Grace customer' list settings process in Aweber is it ? Is there any other part of our entire system that I'll need to change that url from 'success' to 'album success' for ?

I have attached a screen shot of where I've changed it in Aweber, in my 'karen grace customers' list.

Is it correct that I have the confirmation message turned on for 'Aweber signup forms', and off for 'subscriber imports?' as below ?

Does 'aweber signup forms' relate to people who might not be on my mailing list, who buy the album through my site, and therefore go through a 'confirmed' opt-in process to get onto my customers list?

And does 'subscriber imports' refer to people who are on my list, who buy the album and therefore skip the confirmation message? And am I right in thinking that those people will automatically land on the album-sucess page and be tracked on the fb pixel, or is there something else I need to do to ensure that?

Thanks,

Karen

PS I can't for the life of me think how this relates to the 'pay what you want' process. As mentioned, I got to 23 minutes in the tutorial, and I can't for the life of me think whether I put the old 'success' url in anywhere, in which case it will have to be changed to https://www.karengracemusic.ne.....um-success. I will mention this in the Steve 'pay what you want' email thread too.

I'm struggling to follow everything here as there are many questions within the same post, but if I understand you correctly, then yes, that looks correct to me. You will find out very quickly if things do or don't get tracked.

Does 'aweber signup forms' relate to people who might not be on my mailing list, who buy the album through my site, and therefore go through a 'confirmed' opt-in process to get onto my customers list?

I don't understand this question.

An import is someone you import from a csv or text file, because they signed up offline or you brought them over from another company.

Hi John,

Re: the question above that you didn't understand, I just wanted to double check you understood I was talking about the list settings/confirmation message in 'Karen Grace customers.'

I was trying to understand what exactly it means that I seem to have clicked 'ON' for 'send confirmation message for Aweber signup forms,' and 'OFF' for 'send a confirmation message for subscriber imports' under the confirmation message for the album sale.

Excuse the bold font, just wanted to check you were tracking with me there?

I went through my own album sales process again twice last night, using my website order button, with 2 different email addresses, and I didn't get a confirmed opt in message for either email- I just got the 'here is your album download' message. So this would suggest Aweber was considering my email addresses to be a 'subscriber imports.' ??? Do you see why I am left wondering what a 'subscriber import is' in this context ?

Not that I have had problems with this process when people have bought the album, but I am wanting to make sure I understand these details before really going for it with my advertising. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks,

Karen

Assuming I am following you, it doesn't matter what list you are talking about. You have "Send confirmation message for aweber sign up forms" turned off for imports so that you can upload a list and not require them to opt in. Imports are typically people that gave you their address at a live show, or who you are moving over from a different list, for consolidation reasons. Therefore, you don't normally want to ask imports to opt in, as you will lose valuable subscribers who have already consented. But just make sure whoever you import has consented.

Excuse the bold font, just wanted to check you were tracking with me there?

If you signed up and did not get the confirmation message then it is likely because you are signing up to a list you are already on, and you have the "already subscribed" url set to be the same url as the confirmation (aka success) url.

Some other possible reasons that could have happened

1. You don't actually have it on.

2. You do have it on but you haven't changed the confirmation url on the web form or the list.

It is not because aweber is seeing your address as an import.

If you call aweber they will be able to quickly see what is going on.

Not that I have had problems with this process when people have bought the album, but I am wanting to make sure I understand these details before really going for it with my advertising. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks,

Hi John, thanks for this.

I think it was because I signed up to a list I have been on previously and albeit having deleted myself a few times for tests ...

Just checking a couple last things on this. If people do get taken through the confirmation process, for buying the album, it goes to the same step-1 thanks url as if they were signing up to my main list right ? As in the same 'you're almost done!' one. Presumably it doesn't matter that it would be the same page for either list, as this isn't getting tracked or anything so there will be no confusion. Right ?

And lastly, just out of interest, as far as I understand, it's PayPal that 'tells' Aweber someone has made a purchase, and to add them to the customers list, right ? But does this mean that if someone puts an email address in paypal (getting a receipt from PayPal to that email) it's that email address that gets added to Aweber customers ? So potentially if they put a different email address into PayPal to the one they put into the main list, they could end up staying on both Aweber lists?

Again, just wanting to understand everything before I get going properly- thanks!

It is p to you, whether you decide to have confirmed opt in on or off for your customer list. Either is fine. Customers will usually use primary emails.

If you do have confirmation turned on, you could use the same step 1 page, but I normally create seperate ones. Not for any real reason though.

And lastly, just out of interest, as far as I understand, it's PayPal that 'tells' Aweber someone has made a purchase, and to add them to the customers list, right ? That's correct on both accounts.

Again, just wanting to understand everything before I get going properly- thanks!

Ah sorry one last question. I believe the page that paypal should be set to take a customer to after they finish checkout is the step-1 thanks page. But I don't entirely understand this, as I thought that page only featured if the confirmed opt in is turned on in Aweber. Does PayPal somehow know to bypass that if opt-in is off ?

Thanks !

Actually, no...

If you are using the integration then it would be an optimal experience to turn the confirmed opt in off for the customer list. You don't need  to do this. People will simply get a confirmation link before they can get the purchase downloads. But I think it's smoother. But yes, they should go to the step 1 link regardless.

Ah, OK thanks.

Right so, everyone should get directed from paypal to the step 1 thanks page with 'you're almost done- please confirm etc.' But if I turn off the confirmed-opt-in in Aweber for customers, then they simply won't get the confirmation email, as they have just been told, ... they'll just get the download email, so it will just be a little easier than what was written on the step 1 thanks page they just saw. Right ?

Thinking through this, I have just made a note that if and when I create a custom conversion for album sales people on Facebook, it will have to be for the step 1 thanks page if confirmed opt in is turned off, won't it ? Because if it is turned off, people won't ever land on the 'album success page' right ? In which case, it's super important that I use a different step-1 thanks page for the album process to the main list email opt in process right- so I can track who's who ?

Again, just to remind you I never did the upsell part of the MMM training, so not sure what was included in that training. But is my understanding above correct ?

Thanks,

Karen

No, sorry, not exactly, We are getting twisted up in terminology again here. The language I use on my upsell/thank you page says "Wait, you;'re not done, you still need to get your download links, and then pitches them on the upsell. It's this page I thought you were referring to. The upsell page is the page that each customer should be taken to after ordering, regardless of whether you have confirmed opt in turned on or off, as shown in MMM 4.0. You don't want to tell people to check their inbox for a link that is never coming. Because you didn't do the uspell step, that likely became the source of the confusion.

It is also this upsell page that you should have use as your conversion goal. If you don't have an upsell page, it is the thank you page that people go to directly after ordering that should be used for the custom conversion goal. Regardless of whether or not you tell people that they need to check their inbox on that page copy or not.

We treat the general subscribers a bit differently than customers because cold traffic that has just clicked out of curiosity may not confirm or provide a good email address. But a customer usually will.

Hi John, thanks for this.

Yes at the moment my system doesn't include an upsell. When I start up with Patreon, I'm going to ask to pay Steve to set up the upsell part of that for me, as outlined by you in an email thread called 'chargify' to me a while ago. But for the moment, I'm working with a system that doesn't include an upsell.

So when you say 'If you don’t have an upsell page, it is the thank you page that people go to directly after ordering that should be used for the custom conversion goal. Regardless of whether or not you tell people that they need to check their inbox on that page copy or not'.

Is the main thing that, in the paypal buttons in step 3, I put in a dedicated album thank you page that I can track ? And would it make sense to say that if I have confirmed opt-in on for album customers, that I should use this page : https://www.karengracemusic.ne.....m-success/... but if I have confirmed opt in off for customers, it would make sense to use the 'wait, you're almost done' step one thanks page?

And would you mind explaining the reasons I would track that page ? In my mind the main reason I would do that would be to create a custom audience of people who have bought my album, so I can target them with specific things on Facebook. But as we have been talking about custom conversion goals, is this for optimising funnel support ads or something ? I also never did the funnel support ads part of the training, but am planning to at some point. Again, apologies if I'm making you repeat what's in the training.

Doing my best here- thanks for your patience!

Karen

Ah, bollocks, sorry I just re-read your email- please ignore the above (quoted), which was confused on many fronts!...

So I think I get it now. I should always track the page that paypal takes people to. I think for the sake of simplicity, I will turn confirmed opt in OFF for customers, and put this page into the paypal button step 3 thing: http://www.karengracemusic.net.....m-success/

Right ?

Thanks !

Yes, for sales tracking you always use the page a person is redirected to immedietly after ordering, no matter what system you use and no matter if you have confirmed opt in turned on or off.

For subscriber conversion tracking you always track the page they are taken to after they are subscribed to your list. This would be the page they are taken to immediately if you have confirmed opt in off, and it would be on the page they are redirected to after clicking the confirmation link, if you ave confirmed opt in on.

Hope that clears it up.
