Hi John (and anyone else who has thoughts),
I'm curious to know if you have thoughts on selling something more expensive than a $10 album as part of the funnel.
Currently I run a 2-4-1 deal, at $9.95.
I was hoping to make my funnel earn more by selling something worth more right out of the gate.
eg. 3 album bundle - at half price for $14.95
or
3 album bundle - a $19.95 ("buy my latest album and get these 2 at half price" or "buy 2 albums and get the third one free" "buy this 3 album bundle and save 30%)
Obviously the second option brings in more revenue for me so it appeals in that regard. But do you have any thoughts on price resistance? And if you think the second option can work, which of those 3 pitches sounds the most appealing?
I realise these things require testing which I will do, but appreciate any thoughts first.
Cheers!
Rachel
Hey Rachel,
I’m pretty sure the best bet is to offer a cheaper product as a tempting ice breaker. John always talks about creating a bond with your fan rather than selling right out of the gate.
Personally I like the discount album and then upsell a bundle on the checkout page. Following that, I’ve added a few more steps to my opening funnel offering a discounted signed vinyl later down the line. I find those who don’t take the digital route love a vinyl offer after building more of a bond and adding value to them through your automated emails and that’s the key - get talking to people and explain your need for support in a way which doesn’t just ask for a large purchase straight away.
How have your results been so far?
I've seen just about every approach work. The straight forward and safest approach is to offer a low priced initial offer and then upsell. But I've had members report selling much more expensive packages as their initial offer and doing well with that approach. My advice is to test your price points. Get a good handle on how things convert at the lower price point (which you likely already know) and then clone the campaign with a higher priced offer and see which one makes you more money. Test, test, test 🙂
