Hey guys, I'm noticing that while many of the forum categories are loaded with activity, a few are ghost towns. Touring, Music Licensing, and Joint Ventures all have 5 or less topics posted in them. I'm thinking maybe some pruning is in order.
Anyone feel strongly about which (if any) of the above should stay?
Anyone have any suggestions for new categories that deserve attention?
Having trouble with your marketing? Wish you could have an experienced direct-to-fan marketing expert look over your actual campaigns, music, or content and offer feedback? Or perhaps you’re just looking for a little one-on-one assistance so you can ask questions that pertain to your specific goals and get a second, more experienced, perspective? I dunno John.... music licensing and joint ventures are all something that are in my to do file, but still down the road a bit. If you want to close these categories, we could just ask to re-open them later if the need arises. It seems like most of the forum activity right now is more geared towards building up a good fan base.
What would a jam session with Gordon Lightfoot, Collective Soul, and Damien Rice sound like?
Check out Greg Parke and you’ll have a pretty good idea!
Yeah, seems that way. I won't close anything until we get some better replacement ideas, but I want to keep improving things so I'm all ears if anyone has any ideas for new categories that everyone is interested in. Thanks Greg.

Hey John,
don't know whether this would be a forum category... maybe more of a training module that morphs into a forum category. I'm interested in a map or blueprint. There are so many moving parts when conceiving a strategy to launch this new online marketing saavy approach to our business, I would love a "how to get your project up and running in 30 days" outline or guide to follow. A quick reference that cuts through to the essentials so you can see all the steps laid out in one template. I would even pay additional $$ for something like that. For me, so many aspects of this are new and they are all interdependent so I have a hard time connecting the dots and balancing learning with taking action. Whereas if I had an action list that I could refer to I would find it easier to take the steps regardless of the learning curve.
Thanks!
Julianna
Hey Julianna, are you talking about your music or the income project that we spoke about the other day?
I can definitely try and get a 30 day blueprint together for musicians. Only issue there is that this stuff is so flexible and can vary so much that I try to stick with more theory than specific one size fits all blueprints. For example for everyone I have had that says article marketing doesn't work but Twitter does, I have had people say article marketing is the only thing that works. The subtleties of each personality tend to yield different results in different ways.
With that said, I can see the value of it and will see what I can come up with.

Hi John,
I'm talking about a step by step guide to creating your first membership and/or authority site in 30 days... not in depth, since you've already done that in the training modules and we can reference them. More like an outline that takes into account the variances in approach, depending on the goal. Maybe a flow chart would work? On the steps that have multiple options you could list them, for example: traffic driving methods (fb ads and/or articles and/or link building) which all then flow to an authority site or to a squeeze page, or both, all of which lead to the opt-in or offer and the thank you letter which may or may not include an upsell, followed by the relationship building and sales letters etc. then maintenance steps for keeping your site on track, so you can see the map visually with all the moving parts and options and where they ultimately lead.
On the flow chart you could even include your recommends for purchases at each stage so it all becomes more automated. Just an outline to look at, so someone doing this for the first time can know what step follows what and where they all go. I'm imagining something simple... no details just taking everything you talk about and distilling it into "first you do this, then you do that, then if you want to do this you do that, but if you want to do that you do this and it all leads here or there, etc. As I'm saying this I know it's a ton of info to distill so not at all simple on your end! Could be a powerful way to get people engaged though!! On the other hand it may be that since each case is so individual it's impossible to pin down...
Just throwing it out there based on what trips me up. I like to follow directions and would love a general launch blueprint... but maybe I'm nuts!
I see. Still not clear if you're talking about your music or the income project you mentioned. If they latter we should probably move this to the internet marketing forum. If the former it's pretty straight forward. You just follow the same steps in MMM but offer a different product. Either as a stand alone or an upsell. As to how you organize it that can vary so widely that one blueprint won't really fit all. But the basics of what I would do are covered in the module on this. I'll see if I can't put some kind of a one sheet together at some point.

Throw in my vote for a step by step outline too! I am s l o w l y implimenting all of this stuff, partly because I am heavily involved in my latest recording project, and partly because there is so much to learn...and forget! A simple outline would help trigger my memory, and remember where to go to research the next step.
I used the word simple, meaning simple in format. I understand how hard it might be to actually put something like this together!

Hi John, decided to plan two membership sites, one for meditation and one for my music (not targeting a niche... just a simple, annual fee one). I'll post any other questions on the meditation site in the internet marketing forum... Thanks!!
Sounds good Julianna.
Cheers.

I thought I'd go back to the original topic for this thread.
How about a category for successes and failures? I really like hearing about the techniques people try (whether they are learned here or elsewhere) and what kind of results they got. It could be nice to have a separate category to make it easier to find and give a little incentive to report in with stories.
Hey Annie,
That's a good idea. I might just add that one. Case studies basically, right?

That does sound like a good topic! As musicians, I think we tend to be a bit independant. But in this forum, I think there is a general feeling of trust, and kind of a "been there, done that", "I know what you mean" approach. Sharing our successes and failures, without any fears of being judged is one thing I like so much about this forum. Bring it on!

Hi John,
Yeah. Case studies. Things that have worked, sort of worked on not worked. I find it helpful when I hear what people have actually done and what kind of results they're seeing.
