Hello Insiders...

seeking some help and feedback. Spent way to much money on Zero results so we are asking for some feedback starting with the squeeze page, then the add. Spending 10$ a day results for 2 days = 3 subscribers reach was 1633 @6.61 per lead. We were going to wait til we got at least 5 subscribers but decided to shut her down until things are fixed. Help anyone.. PS this is our latest campaign we have spent over 200$ yielding the same results.

few questions

1) @10$ a day what is typically a good amount of leads or subscribers for a average campaign?

2) @10$ a day with ad set of 3 adds what is a good reach for USA - Canada? Only targeting 1 band (example Weezer)?

Squeeze page...

Anything stick out, annoying or could be better in anyones opinion?

We have targeted Weezer, Clutch, Foo Fighters, The Used, Audioslave, Alice in Chains to name a few.

Add looks like this... we went with the lighter happier pics as opposed to the more serious.

Hey Mark,

While nothing looks particularly bad, I can spot a few areas that perhaps could be improved.

For starters, I personally think your main text (which is the most impactful part of an ad) is weaker than the link description. The line "Tijuana Bullfight captures the loud, fast, free sunburnt spirit of California Grunge Punk” does a better job at communicating the experience that your music will ultimately offer. Right now the focus is on cracking open a beer, which to me has far less impact.

Another possible problem is that you relate your descriptive terms to "California Grunge Punk". I get what you're going for but as that is not really an established genre it may not be connecting with your target audience, many of whom may just not click with the term.

For example if you ran an ad that said "Tijuana Bullfight captures the loud, fast, free sunburnt spirit of bands like the Foo Fighters and Weezer” and then target those bands, that might connect better.

You might also explore different angles with the images. They are all quite similar.

Looking at your stats you have a relevancy score of 7 (which is getting a bit low) and your CTRs are under 2% which is also low. You might dig through your stats to see what segment of your audience is performing best and whittle things down a bit.

Your cost per click is not as low as it could be, but it suggests you should be able to get conversions for something clsoer to $2 - $3. Still high, but better than where you are. That suggests you have a disconnect between the why people are clicking and what they are seeing when they get there.

I would start by really trying to get in the head space of the people that are clicking on your link and present them with ad copy that is likely to keep them reading and ultimately lead to that conversion.

Hope that helps a bit.

Hey Mark,

The first thing I thought when I read your ads was what John said, "The line “Tijuana Bullfight captures the loud, fast, free sunburnt spirit of California Grunge Punk” does a better job at communicating the experience that your music will ultimately offer." The line about grabbing a beer didn't have an impact on me....even though I enjoy beer.

When I listened to your music the first band that came to my mind was Nirvana.

Just thought I'd throw those opinions out there, hoping it can provide any further confirmation on what John said or any further insight about how other's perceive your ads and your music.

Brent, thanks for taking the time to inject some insight. Honestly I got so discouraged with results I had not returned back to my ads and squeeze page in over a week. So, thank you for getting me back on track.. So i tweeked again the SQ page but i am wondering if it is to wordy (my headline)?I am going to create and ad and see how it goes. I have tried to target Nirvana but them being so big, not many fans just a lot of people interested in the what happened to Kurt (movies) Courtney and Dave and not really the music. My opinion. Anyway thanks again.

Hi Mark,

Steve here.  Just curious, but I see you have a song stream sample.  Have you tried split testing this page against the same page without the sample?

To echo what Steve asked, typically pages without samples will do better. But not always.

If you are concerned about Nirvana being too broad you could always target fans of Bleach or Nevermind. There should should be some related interest that is not quite as broad.

My feeling about your headline is that you are leading with the less exciting part of what you are doing, similar to the original ads. Usually the goal of the squeeze page headline is to restate the bold claim or promise in your ad. By switching it up and mentioning other bands you sort of lose that and possibly trigger new resistance from people who do not yet believe that you can fill the shoes of some of these legendary bands. Know what I mean?

If you felt the need to mention those bands you might do better with something along the lines of "TIJUANA BULLFIGHT – captures the loud, fast, free sunburnt spirit of California Grunge Punk. A Must-Have for any fan of Nirvana, Foo Fighters, or The Used." In other words, lead with your strengths and use familiarity to support your claim, rather than the other way around. Just my two cents.

Steve and John, thanks for taking the time to echo and add feedback.

Steve - Yes (split testing the music) I had an error with the spilt testing music on and off the squeeze and page and had yet to get it resolved so decided to try it in this campaign. I had a problem with (Core Dumping - Scripting Issue) from my hosting company when I tried to use the split test script. My Hosting company blames the script (but then again they are not much help on any tech). So I used the  music is on the page for the first couple of days and i am going to try it without and see, with a few of John's tweeks...

John- gotcha - gonna toy with it now... Funny started the campaign Saturday with Relevance Score high 10-9 (a plus for me cause usually they are  low (5,6,7).. on two adds in my add set but had no subscribers until after  I made a small tweek yesterday BUT by doing the opposite of your last note. Leading with the Bands then my Headline. - Your way makes more sense... I am going try that.

Here is a off beat ? Do you think the time of year makes a difference? When I started my first campaign, step for step following your lead via the facebook ad course, with almost the same ad (pics and copy) I yielded the best results. 3 ad sets 10$ a piece for the first three days right after xmas before new year and got around 40 subscribers, then filtered off to nothing so i stopped the campaign. And through those subscribers I sold 2 bundles (both the - one in lifetime offer). I am thinking I had success because because people were home in front of a computers, they had more time to take action during the holidays. Can't figure out why such a dramatic difference in success when I knew less and had more of a cookie cutter approach back in Dec?

Anyway thanks guys, appreciate the feedback. Keep ya updated.

Hey Mark,

Time of year does have an impact. But it shouldn't be a black and white impact. More of a 10% better or worse kind of thing.  The day of the week can also impact things.

What seems to happen with a new ad is that Facebook's algorithm determines whether or not it's doing well fairly quickly and then it becomes difficult to dig yourself out of an under performing ad. So my best guess at why one thing works well at one point and not so well later on is that you started off strong with your first ad, and got unlucky and started off weak with the second, nearly identical ad. That said, it still could have just been a result of whatever small tweaks you made.

I see this all the time. I run an ad, it does well. I run a similar ad it tanks. I pause it, run the exact same ad a few days later and it works. This happens more often when I have run an ad for a while and my audience is already aware of my brand due to repeat exposure. It can be a bit finicky.
