Hey John,

As you know I am focusing on a few different aspect's of all of this. But lately i have been working hard on branding, trying to make sure my image aligns with my music which in-turn effects who i am targeting. i am wanting to focus on all three and make sure its all tight & to ensure they buy at the end of the funnel. It would be a shame to have my image & or Ad images and targeting spot on for these people to then get turned off by my music cause i have gone wrong with my overall branding somewhere.

I think i am on the right track but would like an objective opinion to make sure i am going in the right direction. So i will give you some images from a recent shoot,  a new track from my new Ep and then list some of the targeting options i have been using and if you could i've me your thoughts that would be great.

P.S would love your thoughts on the tunes, me and my mate have produced this and its really been taken to a new level and we are bloody excited about it haha

So here is a track from the new album:

Is this soft rock?

Also I had a new logo designed:

SO, what i have been trying for targeting is bands such as

- Fleetwood mac

- Dire Straits

- Bryan Adams (not Ryan Adams)

- The Police

Thanks, i look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Jordan

I looked at the pics to see what I was going to guess what you sounded like. I was imagining a John Mayer type vibe. That's what I got out of the tune too. I think that would be a great audience to go after. A second vibe from the music was Richard Marx. maybe the 45-55 demo would really appreciate your stuff.  It sounds legit and solid. Nice work.

Hope you do't mind my two cents was checking for feedback on my dismal conversion post!

Jeff

Hey Jordan,

Sorry for the slow response. I've been traveling for the last 5 days and was more or less off line. Back at it now.

Everything looks really good to me. I think the song, and the images are all consistent and should do well.

If I was to select a least favorite image it would be the one where you are sitting on the concrete thing. Not because I don't like it, but just because you are a bit far away, looking down, and I get less of a feeling from it. But all are worth testing.

Your music is what I call (in a slightly kidding way) "sensitive-man rock". I use this term to refer to artists like David Grey, David Matthews, John Mayer, James Blunt, etc. You are firmly in that camp in my opinion even though you have nuances that are your own. I think this is ultimately a good thing. Brian Adams and Richard Marx are also interesting targeting ideas.

I am wondering if perhaps the issue is that these artists are just too mainstream to have success with in terms of targeting. In other words they encapsulate too broad of an audience. It might be worth trying to narrow things down. I know you had success when you narrowed the age, but what if you took your two most successful past targeting options and targeted only people who liked both of them? This would be purely experimental. Sometimes this approach works sometimes it doesn't, but it might help insure that you are getting people that are actually fans of that kind of music and not just people that think an artist is cute. I'd also apply the demographic filters you've been having some luck with.

I'd also make sure you are running any ad that is close long enough to bring the price down. In the past I have noticed what seemed to be pretty short runs on some of your ads. If it's ridiculously expensive then you should shut it off. But if it's $3 - $4 give it a few days to see if it comes down. I often see big drops around day number 3. But not always.

Hey mate,

Thanks for the reply. Yea the reason i was wanting to know weather everything was lining up is because i had another photo shoot on the weekend specifically with Facebook ads in mind. I think the images are a lot more Facebook friendly and i am hoping will work well. as the last shoot i reckon was a bit "artsy" if that makes sense?and this shoot was done with candid/ natural in mind. Here are a couple of examples from the new shoot do you think they are better than previous ones?

JLM_1926.jpgImage EnlargerJLM_2019.jpgImage EnlargerJLM_2152.jpgImage EnlargerJLM_2035-2.jpgImage Enlarger

The best results i have gotten with the with targeting and also making sure i let it run for 8 days was targeting fleetwood mac and the older ladies seemed to be eating it up. that add ended up getting down to $2.50 in cost after 5 days. but the weird thing is i have done some ad copy testing and the one that seems t get the best result is this:

"Love the warm bluesy riffs and breezy melodies of bands like Fleetwood mac, Dire straits & The Eagles..? Then i think you might like my music too. Join my email list and il send you a FREE DOWNLOAD"

headline being: " FREE MUSIC DOWNLOAD"

I got a conversion rate on my squeeze page of over 40% after 200 visits with this add. Is it strange to have something so literal be my best performer so far..? in regards to the adds click through rate etc..

And maybe having some better images might make the difference and get it into the range i have been chasing?

Valid point on the targeting side of things i will definitely give that a go, but something with in me says that not having good enough images might have been hurting me a little and im hoping these new ones might help.

I don't know if I think these new images are any better or worse. I like them all. I think they are more candid which does tend to play well on Facebook, but the last set has a slightly more "rock star" vibe. I could see any or all of them doing well. Just need to test.

It's very cool to see you making progress. I know how hard you worked at this and you've stuck with it where many others wouldn't have. That's really cool. $2.50 in Australian dollars is $1.98 in US dollars so you are in range. Just need to shave a tiny bit off and you're there. The image could very well be the key. I suspect that despite what FB told you, your account's past performance is a factor as well, and as your campaigns improve things are snowballing in the right direction. But that's just a suspicion. I could be wrong.

In terms of copy... It's the main copy that is far more important than the headline so I'm not shocked that your ad with the headline "Free Music Download" is doing well. I still think you can do better with a different headline, but I have done well with those kinds of headlines as well. Nothing is really strange with this stuff. There are all kinds of things that are surprising with this stuff. Often counter intuitive.

My biggest advice right now would be to dig through those reports and look for segments of your audience that are doing better than others and then start a new campaign and apply the new demo filter.
