Hey John, I just found out a song I co-wrote got placed in NBC's Best Friends Forever. It's airing in a week and I'm wondering whether, beyond social media blasting, you have any recommends on how to maximize opportunities like that. I got a placement in a Justin Timberlake movie last year and only months later did I realize I should have put a link to my squeeze page on my youtube vid of the song. It got @ 1500 hits and some of those people could now be on my list if I had set it up...
Anytime I have a placement I try to just make sure I have some good keyword targeted content out there for anyone who is searching as a result of the broadcast. I might put something on my blog, maybe an ezine article and maybe even a press release. And then make sure you have a call to action in everything. You might also build some cheap links via fiverr if you're not ranking in the top spots for those keywords.
For example I have the end title track for "what happens in vegas" and I create all kinds of content related to keywords like "what happens in vegas sound track" and "what happens in vegas I hate you my friend", etc. I offered that track for free via that content and got thousands of subscribers as a result.
But an end title track has a lot of power. For something like a placement in a TV show I think a few articles and maybe a cheap press release would be more than enough.

I'm thinking of the missed opportunities in my past 🙁
How evergreen are end titles? Is it worth taking any steps on those now?
Anyway, this will motivate me to get my squeeze page and free offer set up and finally use the viral music player! I've been distracted...
There is no rule to these things. Not evergreen at all, but some movies have search volume for many years. Just use google's keyword tool to see if anyone is searching for words related. God knows how many opportunities I missed in the past before I learned this stuff, so I hear you.

That's amazing! Well done. I hope you get a lots of new fans through it.
Can I ask you how you got the placement? Did you work at it yourself, through a sync agency or any other way? We are looking for ways to get our music into TV and film.

Hi Bjorn,
Thanks! Actually this placement came through my co-writer, via a sync agency. The last placement came because I knew the editor, the time before that it was my publishing company (BMG), so a bunch of different sources.
I've tended to stumble into these opportunities and since a lot of my music is tied up with a publishing company, my hands are somewhat tied. That said, I'm a firm believer that any situation can work if there's genuine enthusiasm for your music and consistent action being taken, whether you're with a sync company, a publisher, or developing your own relationships.
I suspect if I put more consistent effort into out reach, I'd see more opportunities.
