Hi all

I recently tried the free CD offer and was testing various elements on a new squeeze page. Long story short, one of the tests did terribly and my page was not converting at all. I tested it against my main squeeze page, which has been converting at 25% or higher, but it wasn't converting either. My first thought was that something is wrong with my signup form or there is a broken link somewhere, but everything was working fine.

This specific campaign was set to traffic, so I turned it off and created an identical campaign set to conversions. My page is converting at 27% now!!!! I noticed that the traffic campaign had "detailed targeted expansion" clicked on, which I think might have thrown things off a bit, but even after turning it off the campaign was getting 0 conversions.

The traffic campaign got insanely cheep clicks, as low as 3 or 4 cents, CTR of 9%, but 0 subscribers.....

Did something change with Facebook's algorithm lately causing it to get really low quality traffic on traffic campaigns? Or could this be just a coincidence and I had a few bad days with the traffic campaign?

Thanks

Gadi

Hey Gadi,

This is a trend for a while now. Some traffic campaigns still perform well, and if your budget is very low it's all you can do. However, the algorithm is so powerful that if you stumble upon an ad that gets clicks for reasons different from the real pull of the offer, then you can end up with a campaign that performs terribly, simply because Facebook is honing in on those people that are clicking, rather than those that want the music. If what you want is conversions it is ALWAYS better to choose conversions as the objective, unless you simply can't afford a big enough budget to get you at least 5 leads per day.

It's also a good idea to leave expand audience unticked.

Thanks John

I agree, seems like I was getting tons of clicks from people with no interest in my offer on this campaign.

My original test for the free CD squeeze page was converting at 16%, but simply wasn't getting enough conversions a day for the algorithm to really do its thing, and subscribers were to expensive, so I thought directing more traffic to the page might help.

So it seems the only way to increase quality traffic was increasing my daily budget on the original conversion campaign?

I wouldn't say it's the only way. But with this particular ad copy, image, and audience, it seems like it might be the only way. But f you change up the ad, then different people will click and things could work. But going with conversions is a much better approach.

Thanks John

One more question

I've noticed a pretty big discrepancy on my last two campaigns between AWeber's and Facebook's stats. Sometimes AWeber might show me a 26% conversion rate, but if I calculate it based on Facebook's count it equals 16%.

Is one count more accurate than another? Do I average them out and my conversion rate is actually 21%?

I know the bottom line is how much am I spending per subscriber.... was just curious.

Hi Gad,

I do sometimes see discrepancies like that. The blame can fall on either platform. Aweber's stats are pretty reliable in my experience, but things like double submissions can through the numbers off. Facebook can miss conversions if someone is using a blocker that prevents Facebook from recording the conversion, or if someone converts days after being exposed to the ad, and the data has already been wiped or they ultimately convert from a different device than that which they used when they first saw the ad.

What is most important is that you look at how many subscribers actually came in, and how much you paid. I do occasional manual calculations like that just to get a ballpark idea of the drift and then just mentally apply the discrepancy, if needed. But for the most part I normally see conversion tracking to be pretty close to accurate over time.

If you ever see something different, where Aweber is reporting one number and the number of subs you have doesn't line up, then I would contact them to ask why.
