Hi John,

Facebook is telling me that there are 2 domains (apart from my karengracemusic domain, which I have verified) where my pixels are placed on, and is prompting me to verify the domains.

It's slightly alarming as I have no idea what these 2 websites are (see attached.) Do you think this is something I should be worried about (wondering how they got hold of my pixel info !!) or, since I won't be verifying them, I just ignore this?

Thanks !weird-domains.pngImage Enlarger

Hey Karen,

This is concerning. It looks like your site has been hacked. I went to karengracemusic.com and it is redirecting to https://www.securemymind.com/ which then redirects to some other similar domain. They are Chinese websites. This is an odd hack that I haven't seen before.

First step is to contact your host and find out what is going on. Next step would be to contact Facebook ad support, with whatever info your host gives you.

Don't get too stressed. Hacks are very resolvable. Especially if you have a back up. But even if you don't, your host might. And if they don't it can be quickly recreated by using Google's time machine. But I suspect your site is still there and this is just redirecting. You'll want to make sure you use a security plugin in the future, like the one I recommend (wordfence) or similar.

PS - It's odd to me that you have not noticed the redirect, so they may have a selective IP redirect in place to prevent the site admin from seeing the redirect. Meaning, it may not be redirecting for you but it is for everyone else.

Thanks for this John.

This is a bit mind boggling, with a few different things going on...

First of all, the site I use these days is http://www.karengracemusic.net (net not com). Is the net site re-directing for you too ? It seems fine my end.

Yes http://www.karengracemusic.com is redirecting to something strange for me too... I think I only still own that site so no-one else takes the domain name ( I think I once set up a re-direct to my new website that I created for MMM) but I'm even wracking my brains as to which host I am with with that website !... I don't think my pixel info is on that old website but I might be wrong...

So some hacker has my fb pixel- is this why I should contact facebook too ? What are the implications of this ? Now that domains have to be verified, isn't it the case that this shouldn't really be a problem in terms of facebook, as I simply won't verify them ?

I do have word fence on my new site (but not premium) and also the 'back-up word press plugin' as both of those were part of the MMM training...

My mind is swimming a little as to what to do first...  Should I contact hosts of both websites do you think?

Also do you think I should act immediately or can I leave this a day or two, (have so much on my plate!)...  is it the sort of thing I should sort out urgently? Bloody hackers!

Thanks for your support !

Karen

Ah, ok, well this is much less concerning then. I looked up karengracemusic.com and it does not appear you own it anymore. You likely let it expire without realizing it. A company called Maff Inc owns it and their website imaff.com. When you go to their site it redirects to a Chinese website as well. I'm not sure how your pixel got listed as associated with those two other domains, when I go to securemymind there is no pixel there. So it likely is old data that is no longer accurate. If it concerns you, you can contact FB support.

Your .net site is working fine.

Long story short, this doesn't concern me that much and because of the new domain verification process I don't think you really need to do anything. But that's just my outlook. Ignore it at your own risk.

But from my perspective, this situation doesn't seem very concerning unless you do actually still own the .com site. But I don't think you do.

Thanks for helping me think this through... that was also my feeling that I don't need to do anything because of the domain verification process...

I've looked into it and yes I appeared to have cancelled the hosting for that site in 2019. I think I intended to keep the domain name, but seemed to have let that slip. Ah, well...

Thanks again !

Happy to help. Glad it's not something more malicious.
