Question: how often do you recommend sending emails? I've read that some marketers recommend a daily email. This just seems like too much for me.
Personally, I have artists who I'm a hug fan of, however I don't think I would want to get a daily email email from them. But on the other hand I know we're looking for true diehard fans & you nurture that relationship by daily contact.
What do you recommend?
Hey Tim,
It varies a lot. The truth is, the more frequently you email, the more money you'll make. But you'll also burn out your list quicker that way. I do have students who do very well emailing every day. But for me, that's too much. I think once a week is a good (and still pretty aggressive) approach. More frequently during promotions.
It's kind of a balancing act between what you can stomach and the results you get. In general, the math will tell us what the best course is. Try emailing once a week and then email twice a week for a couple of weeks. measure your income and your unsubscribes and decide what works best.

Thanks for the reply John.
I also think this ties into the idea of what is a “true fan”. For example, one could say if you’re emailing every day & someone unsubscribes he/she isn’t a “true fan” & shouldn’t be on your list in the first place. However I think 99% of the population falls somewhere in the middle. They might buy your stuff & support you, but aren’t “true fans” by some peoples definition.
Another example, there’s local singer/songwriter I LOVE. I go see him perform every time he’s in the area, usually a few times a year. By definition I’m a “true fan”, however I don’t know if I would want to get an email from him every day. That’s too much. But you’re right, it is a balancing act. I asked a friend of mine & she suggested once a month. But I think that’s too little, because then you run the risk of people forgetting who you are, plus the average person doesn’t read every email, so you run the risk of people not seeing your stuff. Plus you won’t make any money if you don’t send!
Here’s what I was thinking…. Sending an automated email once a week. This will be automated as part of a never ending sequence & be purely content designed to engage & connect. (free music, stories, etc.) In addition I was thinking about doing some sort of weekly online show/concert. This will be for people in my member ship area. I’m doing a PWYW membership. So every week I’ll also send out an email that says the date/time of the show & how to access it. So this will be informational for people who are already a member & a sales email for people who aren’t. With this approach I’ll be sending out 2 emails per week. 1 that connects & 1 trying to sell. Thoughts?
I agree that one email a day is too much and will burn people out. However, for aggressive marketers that need a positive ROI earlier in the funnel, it can make sense. But I probably wouldn't do it.
I think your plan sounds good. Try it and see how you do. Monitor your stats and see if income goes up and see where the engagement of your customer lists sits long term. Let me know how it goes!
