I found a free Ebook on using Facebook for business. Might be some usefull ideas in there for musicians? The book is pretty recent, so it should work with the new stuff on Facebook. Here's the link:

What would a jam session with Gordon Lightfoot, Collective Soul, and Damien Rice sound like?

Check out Greg Parke and you’ll have a pretty good idea!

Greg,

I haven't looked at that product, but as someone who is a total junkie about this stuff, I'm sure you'll learn something valuable in just about everything you find on these subjects, whether music related or not.  Basically this direct-response model for selling translates very well across all kinds of different applications.

If Facebook is the traffic strategy you want to focus on the most, live it up!

Another thing though about buying these info products is you get a first hand look into someone else's sales funnel.  As long as you stay aware of that, you'll learn a couple of neat things just in the buying process alone.  If it works on you, it will work for you!  🙂  Take notes when buying.

Just wanted to hip you all to something I've recently found to be my best and most loyal customers....Dean Fields.  Apparently other folks with my name are super curious to find out what I sound like...And have been BUYING!  And, all I did was hit up everyone on facebook named Dean Fields on a whim one day.  So, you might consider doing the same...?

Hey Dean,

That is so funny! My band mate (& boyfriend)'s name is Phil Campbell. We were chosen to be on the Motorhead fan club tribute CD because Motorhead's guitarist is named Phil Campbell and the head of the fan club had found my Phil Campbell online, realized he wasn't the same Phil Campbell but liked our music anyway. And we are nothing like Motorhead.

Also - Phil  hooked up with 20 other Phil Campbell's and met in a town called Phil Campbell, Alabama where a tornado had hit. They all met there to help clean up and it actually got a ton of news coverage. One of the other Phil Campbell's is a singer/songwriter and they played a set together at the Phil Campbell hoedown.

Having the same name can really bond people together.

For my two cents worth, there is a pretty well known radio DJ in Ireland named Greg Parke. He has played my music on the air a few times, and we have emailed back and forth about doing a live interview by phone when my next CD comes out, and possibly even doing a small tour in Ireland!

Wow!  You know, I've been using goofy stage names for quite a while, mainly just for fun (my current one is Spanky Beaupeep), and also to stand out like many of my heros… you know, Richard Hell, Johnny Thunders, Cheetah Chrome, etc.  It never occurred to me that there would be a good reason to choose a totally normal one.  Maybe next time I'll go with John Smith!

I suppose it would be ethically dubious to change your name each time you do a facebook campaign so that you can target another group of regular joe names.  Can you imagine that?  This week you're Juan Carlos on guitar, next week you're Jones Smith.  It's cracking me up just thinking about it.

Too bad 'The Smiths' is already taken…. "Welcome to BBC 1, we're here with Johnny Marr.  Johnny why did you guys name the band The Smiths?  Well, it was the one that did best in our split testing and we knew a it would appeal to a lot of people named Smith."

Hahaha.  The Smiths were big into market research.  People say Morrisey liked it more than sex. :p

CD Baby also has a free book on Facebook marketing, to promote their own widget.

I'd like to see some advice on effective Facebook marketing. I did a promotion through Reverbnation, which has the advantage of setting up a landing page for you with a free download, but the targeting seemed to be limited only to "sounds like", rather than all the options you have with a normal Facebook ad.

Hey Reba, I talk about some Facebook strategies in MMM and on the blog, but you're right. There should be a training module on FB in the Insider Circle. I'll try to make that happen in one of the upcoming training modules.

John, I must express my appreciation for your feedback. I know I posted a lot yesterday, but I'm rather feverishly trying to build online sales right now, and I have a lot on my mind. You've been very responsive and helpful.

BTW, how do I create an eye catching sig like yours and Steve's?

Hi Reb,

These instructions are going to be different for different forums, but for this one here's what you do:

(I'm going to see if I can get the bb code to work here… we will see)

John and I are both using a graphic for our sig.  You'll want to create a graphic first if you want to do the same, but you don't have to to getting an eye catching sig.  It's up to you

Secondly, on the top right of any page, click the "Profile" icon.  In your profile settings select "set up your signature".

select the HTML tab on the signature editor and then insert the code for your graphic and link:

<a href="http://www.yoursite.com"'gt;'lt;img

That's it 🙂

EDIT:  the bb code didn't display that properly.  Here it is with the greater than, less than symbols.  Just remove the spaces between the symbols and the letters:
< a href="http://www.yoursite.com" > < img src="https://www.yoursite.com/your_image_file.jpg" > < /a >

So that's just standard html, didn't realize it was that easy. Thanks a lot. (I'm a web designer too)

A very timely explanation - thanks Steve! Might I suggest this particular post gets moved into the tutorials section? I'm not sure how many people will be looking for help with their signature in a post about Facebook!Wink

Haha, and then after that let's do a tutorial on "How to make bb code work, so you can show people how other stuff works."  🙂

I'll figure it out sooner or later. Embarassed
