Hey John
How are you? I just wanted to get a little feedback on my first blog post back in quite a while. This is what I have so far. I'm not sure whether to include this just as an email or an actual post on my site. What do you think? To me it has a one on one email vibe. Its been 2 and a half years since my last email. Here it is:
"Wow! IT. HAS. BEEN. A. WHILE. I’m not usually the ghosting kind but that was ridiculous and I humbly apologise. On the plus side, at least you know I don’t bombard you with countless emails (insert laughing emoji). How have you been?
A lot has happened since we last connected. I lost my father 21 months ago and I’ve kind of been in my own little numb world ever since. He was my best friend and one of the very few people I looked up to. It’s been incredibly tough and it even made me question why I am a musician in the first place. I performed Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ as a tribute at his funeral, you can check that out here if you wish.
But that’s not why I’m here. Besides just wanting to reconnect with you, I recently had my 2008 song “Chaos Theory” (yes, the one I sent you in the first ever email you got from me) re-edited and remastered for radio by the great John Davis (Led Zeppelin, U2, Lana Del Rey, Placebo, Stereophonics, Blur). We’re currently working on a music video as we speak and the song should be available on all streaming platforms relatively soon. But I thought I’d give you first access before anyone else hears it. Let me know what you think of this new version. Always appreciate your thoughts.

Take care

Hey Jean,
First off, I'm really sorry to hear about your father. I can only imagine how rough it's been.
To answer your question, It feels a little short for a post, unless you insert some other media, like a video.
It's not wrong or anything if you do want to post it, I'm just sharing my reaction that it is a bit short. It feels more like an email.
It also feels like such a heavy bomb to drop that only serves the purpose of explaining your absence. I find myself wishing that the new song was related to your loss. It would really pull me in and bridge the gap and get me back in the swing of the new music. Just a thought.

Hey John
I think having the song related to my loss is a great idea. Although it's not directly linked to my father, I can very easily connect the two as it was my first ever release and is about the Butterfly Effect and the choices we make along the way. I could easily create a genuine blog post about this very thing. Thinking about it now, the song connection is making more and more sense the more I think about it.
Maybe a better approach would be to have a shorter email linking to a longer blog post with that embedded video of me performing hallelujah at the funeral and linking the new song download at the end of the post with it all being part of the same story. So to get the song you have to at least scroll through the post. And, in the email body, hinting towards a 'surprise' or 'free gift' thats waiting for them in the post. Do you think this sounds like a more meaningful way to re-connect? Although I'm wondering if words like 'free gift' automatically gets marked as spam?
Thanks John
It does sound more meaningful to me. I have little doubt that the video of you performing that song at the funeral would have a huge impact on people. That said, I'm not a huge fan of combining two things into one post. I like things to be very singular, simple, and straight forward so no one misses anything. If it was me, I'd try and separate the two things into different posts.

Hey John
My apologies for the delayed response. Thanks again for the consulting session. Ive finally gone through the call and have made some notes that I'd like to go over with you if thats okay before proceeding to make any changes. Ive also fixed Blog 1, do you think this is better? http://www.jeanmorrisonmusic.c.....-add-music. Ive kept the concert story with Leighton because Im going to embed the VHS footage I have of that actual gig in the post.
I'll start a new thread regarding the consulting session notes. Thanks again
Oh one other thing, how do I remove the related posts section in a specific blog post or can you only remove it from all posts? Ive tried googling this but I just cant find any information on how to do this. Thanks
Post looks good to me.
The related posts thing is not part of the theme. That is part of one of your plugins. I believe it's Jetpack. There is a setting in there.

Hey John
I'm trying to avoid having you micromanage every aspect of my funnel but having a bit of uncertainty and hesitation of my 2nd blog post in the funnel. So I've written the blog and now I'm attempting to write the 2nd email linking to the blog. It all feels a little strange because it's so personal. This is what I have so far. I'm not sure when you'll be able to reply to this but I'll go with it in the mean time. I'm kind of conflicted with it being too clickbaity and optimising for high open rates. I was just trying to be as honest as possible. Its a bit outside the box from your standard email template so wanted to get your thoughts. Thanks John

Hey {!firstname_fix},
This is extremely tough for me. But, I hope you'll understand why I’m sharing this with you.
I recently lost the only hero I had left, my father. This was my final tribute to him.

Speak soon,
Jean
Hey Jean,
I personally think it's all great. It's very open and honest and heartfelt.
There are a couple of things that I thought as I went through things. I'm not sure if they are right or wrong, just sharing them in case any of these things resonate with you.
1. Is the A after Hey a typo? It looks like one but I get the vibe it's intentional. It confused me.
2. The subject line maybe runs the risk of being perceived as clickbait, which you want to avoid with something so sincere. What about something just a little less blunt, like "I lost the only hero I had left"?
3. Maybe something after the link in the email as it felt a bit cut short. Even just a brief "I hope reading this helps anyone whose ever gone through something similar" or some other quick way of giving context to why they should read your personal experience.
4. In the blog post itself I felt like it should have a little wrap up after the eulogy. Again, you want to avoid being perceived as using the story to gain some kind of conversion, and keep things real, but maybe just inviting people to share their experiences or some other wrap up that either puts it back on them or at least thanks them for letting you share such a personal story and helping to keep your father's memory alive. Know what I mean? Just something to end bring closure to the post and end the conversation that is taking place between you and the reader.
Those are just thoughts. Take them or leave them. Ultimately you will know it's working, or not, based on the feedback you get.
Good stuff and best of luck.

Thanks so much John this is very helpful. With response to your points:
1. Yeah it was a typo. All fixed now.
2. That sounds better to me
3. Thats perfect!
4. Not sure if you saw but I do have this as the last paragraph before the eulogy starts "Who are or were the heroes in your life that give you a reason to get up in the morning? And what are you going to tell them today?" Is that what you mean? If it is do you think that would maybe look better after the eulogy? Ive just updated it now.
Thank you so much John, this is all very helpful.
Hey Jean,
Sorry, I missed that final wrap up. Maybe include it after the video so it stands out as a separate section?
