Hey guys,
I'm struggling to think of a USP.
This is the music I am working on selling: https://spoti.fi/2HwpC36
USP ideas so far:
Shred-infused British heavy metal
Killer 80s heavy metal
Virtuoso heavy metal with tasty leads and great songs
Neoclassical British Heavy Metal
In terms of my look, I look a bit like a viking. Long hair, beard: http://www.samrussell.co.uk/
Thanks for the help 🙂
Sam
Hey Sam.
It's a bit difficult for me to tell someone what their USP is without really diving in. When I do this for clients it's only after conducting a 90 minute interview with them to really understand who they are and what they are doing, and usually a bit of research on the genre as well.
I'm not the world's biggest metal expert, but what I heard sounded like a modern take on classic metal. I didn't hear "British" and "Killer" is to subjective.
Who are some bands that you are similar to and what do you think makes you so unique that people should listen to your music when there are millions of other artists out there to listen to? I usually start honing in on the USP with those questions in mind.

Hey John,
thanks for the reply - I've been blown away by how good the support is!
Modern take on classic metal is good - I hadn't thought of that.
Bands I sound similar to:
Reviews have said Iron Maiden, Fates Warning, Yngwie Malmsteen and guitar players like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Paul Gilbert. I think I sound a bit like Axel Rudi Pell and Doro Pesch.
What makes me unique: My music has bigger dynamic shifts than a lot of contemporary metal. It is very melodic and tonal - a lot of modern metal is... well I think it's just noise, a random number generator could write most modern metal albums. The guitar soloing is virtuoso level, but in a way that compliments the song rather than being for the sake of shredding.
Cool. "A modern take on classic metal" is clear enough for my liking. It says what you are as well as how you are different, and is clear enough that it can help steer you as you make decisions along the way. But you would know much better than I.

Thanks John.
I'll run with "A modern take on classic metal" and keep the idea in my mind so it can evolve if necessary
Sounds good \m/
