I was really inspired by John's house concert inverview. It's something I've been wanting to do for a while. Well...I just bought the Bose L1 sound system, which is the perfect (IMHO) setup for that kind of thing. I'm not actually a huge Bose fan, but the easy setup, portability, features, and reasonably good sound make it a no-brainer for what I want to do.
I did my first duo gig last Saturday, at the CCD Expo. It was hotter than blazes! This was a sort of dry run (with an audience) of what I'd like to do for house concerts -- guitar, sax, and augmenting backing tracks. The venue had it's own sound system, so it wasn't exactly what I'm planning with my own system. Nevertheless, I'm pretty excited about the concept.
Anybody else doing house concerts? Comments? Experiences? Advice? LOL! I'd actually like to do a house concert tour! I think that would be a total kick in the pants!
Hey Charley,
If you get a chance, could you please give us an update in the traffic forum about your progress with ppc? I know you were doing well with it and I think others can really benefit from your experience so far.
Nice to see you again, bud! (not to ignore your question here... I actually don't have any valuable input for you...)
Steve 🙂

Thanks. I posted an update.
I have done a few in the past as pick up gigs to fill in the open dates on the road, but nothing as organized as the house concerts as referred to in the interview with Brian Vander Ark. This was before I had ever thought to use my own list to book the tour. It's something I very much want to try down the road though. I like the idea of adding them to your business model as an upsell of sorts. It really makes the idea of profitable PPC so much more exciting.
But as he said in the interview, Brian does really well with house tours. there is no hype in that interview. He makes good money with it and he has a number of friends that don't have the notoriety that he does who also do very well, even when they just pass the hat.
I remember having a house party a few years ago and I hired some street musicians that I really liked to come play. I only paid them $100 but they sold 20 CDs or so for $15 if memory serves. The reciprocity factor is SO high in an environment like that, that it becomes hard NOT to buy a CD.
