Thought this might help some of you guys the other day I had a consulting client ask what the best way to approach a music supervisor was. I think people have some misconceptions here.
Let me give you 5 quick tips for how to get your email opened.
- know who you are talking to.
- mass emails dont get the job done unless you already have a relationship – BE PERSONAL and you have a greater chance of breaking in
– do your homework – know projects that particular music supervisor has worked on, you might see some patterns in styles of music.
– be brief and to the point. "Hi, my name is____, My music sounds like Postal Service meets Coldplay and I own 100% of my master and my publishing.
Hope that helps!
best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah...
Thanks for posting that! Do you have any thoughts on what constitutes 'broadcast quality' production for musical submissions...or might it vary from project to project?
I had done a bit of research on this, but didn't find anything concrete...
thanks!
Michael

This is an area I have not aggresively pursued because I figured, "What are the chances?" Today I just got my statement from BMI after landing a song on The Weather Channel for a couple months. I think I'm going to be pursuing this avenue a bit more now.
I can confirm that I hit Sarah's bullet points.
Yeah, there is a whole new breed of musician that is making nearly all of their income on placements. It can definitely be a big money maker.

ha...well thanks. Glad yall dig it. I actually wrote (and apparently deleted by accident) a post directed to Sarah about an event in Nashville for licensing that has since passed. I'm loving this forum. Sorry that I am among the folks who are reading more than they are contributing. I hope to change that now.
