Hi!
I've been using direct messaging on twitter to drive people to a webpage that has a song to listen to and a sign up form. (which has been working well although not technically a squeeze page)
I was using a regular music player but decided to switch it to the viral music player.
I was wondering if this is a good way to use the viral music player or not.
First of all, is this considered spammy by twitter?
Also - do you think that psychologically people will feel that since you've already asked them to share a song (actually forced them to do so to listen) - that also asking them to sign up is asking too much of someone who has just been exposed to you.
What do you think?
Here's the web page
Hey Annie,
If it's working for you then I don't think there is anything wrong with that at all. I personally try to keep it focused on one action per promo (or at least per step in the promo), but it's whatever works. I like VMP as a way to share my tracks with my existing base while asking for there support. But if you're getting sign ups and shares the more power to you.
And I don't see why it would be considered "spammy" on Twitter if you were going about it in a reasonable way.

I was getting sign ups just using a regular player and the sign up form.
I did get one sign up with the viral player but then stopped using twitter for a few days while I thought about it. I think it might be a little too much to have both the viral player and the sign up.
Yeah, personally think so. I think the VMP is best used for sharing new songs with your existing base, or on a thank you page AFTER people have already signed up (setting it to redirect new visitors back to the squeeze page). But a lot of people have been quite creative with the VMP.

Hi Annie,
I actually think it's a really smart way t use it, because essentially, in the grand scheme of selling stuff, you're really looking for people who will take little bite-size "commitments".
If they make one small commitment, like sharing the track, they'll likely take another small commitment like signing up for more, or even buying.
The only question still is whether or not Twitter finds it to be spammy. They might, but personally, I don't see the point in getting all miffed because someone is asking me to do something in exchange for something I might really like. If they do get miffed about it, they probably wouldn't buy from you anyway and instead they would try to get as much free stuff from you as possible.
Go for it.
