Hey guys,

I know one of the things we talk about here is having only ONE call to action in each email.  I am releasing an EP April 9 and thought it would be fun to do a casual (which i will of course, not call "casual" but will call "exclusive and intimate!" online show from my living room the night of the release to celebrate. I thought it might help create some excitement and action around the release, as well as help me sell some packages to people who virtually attend. but I also realize that if I have this show and send people to get tickets to it in the same email and during my launch when I am trying to send people to my offer, that it might be competing and decrease my sales instead of increasing them.

What do you think?

Thanks!

Kat

(P.S. Talk about competing interests- my subject line is queen!)

Yeah, you wouldn't want to be promoting a secondary offer as you lead up to your big drive. that would almost certainly fatigue people a bit.

You could probably just push the tickets a bit earlier to get it out of the way.

But honestly, I'd probably make it free and use it as part of the launch, or even pre-launch. This could either take the place of the late night web cam video the night before the release and you could let people get in early. Then you could send the replay with a big order link under it as your mid launch content. After the "its live" email but before the "last chance" emails go out. Just a thought.

I like the emotional aspect of a show on the night of the release but I don't know how to do it without stepping on the toes of your main push.

Hmmmm, maybe another possibility is to just do the launch, like usual. Go live with your album in the morning. and then a few hours later you send out an email that basically says something like...

----

Subject: Meet me in my living room at 7pm TONIGHT.

Hey (name),

As you probably know, my album _________ was released this morning. Well, it's been a huge success. Phew!

I've already sold out of the XXXX packages and the XXXX packages are going fast, but you can still get one here:

link

I thought that I'd celebrate the release of my album with a completely impromptu internet concert TONIGHT at 7PM pacific. This will be streamed live from my living room and you can catch the show here:

link to live broadcast room and countdown.

I realize this is a bit last minute but what the heck, that's rock n' roll for ya.

During the show I'll be taking requests and I'll be holding a little chat session after the gig. I'd love it if you can make it.

Best of all, it won't cost you a dime. Heck, you don't even have to get dressed if you don't want to because the whole thing will be streamed over the internet.

Shoot, that reminds me... I need to go clean up my apartment. Eesh!

Catch you at 7PM pacific TONIGHT. (That's just 4 hours from now).

Hope to see you online soon,

Kat,

PS - if you'd haven't had a chance to get the album yet and would like to take a listen before the show starts, you can get your copy here: Link.

The last minute aspect of it will likely cut down on attendees, but who cares really. I can see why it would be fun to celebrate the release with your audience. And the replay gives you some great mid-launch content. Just be sure that you ask for the sale during the set. And use the chat session after the gig to give a toned down version of your sales pitch, but in a way that feels like its just conversation.

Anyway, just riffing. take what you want, or not.

oh my gosh, I LOVE this idea! and i LOVE your email - I wish I could riff like that!

A few thoughts:

Yes, you got it- the emotional aspect would be really nice for ME too! i would enjoy performing and celebrating the day in that way.

I usually do my shows on stageit.com which I really like using (it is really easy to use and has an awesome way for the whole audience to chat in with each other), but it is impossible to do a free show on it. The best I can do is "pay what you want" which means that people can pay *I think* as little as $0.10, however they have to pay this in "Notes" which is the Stageit currency. And the minimum amount of "notes" that one can buy is $10 worth at a time. When I've done shows online in the past through them, there has not been a way to record the show either as I am using my webcam to broadcast it and it will not record simultaneously. I'm going to email them now to double check.

One idea is that I can mention the show now in the same email where I announce the release date (which will be a month from the time I send this email), with a link to purchase tickets and people can buy them now and then only be reminded about it again on FB & Twitter if they are keeping up with me there (and through stageit if they buy tickets)? This is aligned with your idea of pushing it early and getting it out of the way.

But, I LOVE your idea re: email same day- so another option would be to use a different platform like Google Hangouts to make it free? I've spent time trying to set up a UVerse account in the past (for the same reason of wanting to give a free show) and haven't been able to figure it out yet. Do you have any experience with it or another user friendly platform? Ideally, I'd prefer to go with what I know at this point (StageIt) but if I have to charge for tickets, it sounds like it might not make sense?

I didn't quite understand this idea:

"But honestly, I'd probably make it free and use it as part of the launch, or even pre-launch. This could either take the place of the late night web cam video the night before the release and you could let people get in early." Do you mean send out a same day type of email (with the same idea as the one you wrote) the night before the show and just let people in the "store" early?

Thanks John- these thoughts are so helpful. I'm getting excited!

yeah, I hate Stageit's token concept. It really bugs me when companies make someone create an account in order to purchase. Talk about creating additional steps. I have put my wallet away so many times in online stores because they wanted me to register first.

Have you looked at ustream? I haven't checked them out in a while but I think they would work for what you want. There are plenty of webinar platforms out there as well that should allow you to pull it off. Though uStream might get you some additional exposure. I haven't personally tried them myself.

What I was saying in that paragraph was that one thought was that instead of sending out that late night web cam vid like you have in the past you could invite people to a live living room show and use the time in a similar way as the late night web cam video and for the same purpose within the sales funnel. But I think I like the impromptu online concert following the release idea better.
