Hi I'm a new member... I'm working on setting up my website so I can focus on facebook ads.
I've had trouble figuring out who I sound like. Some of my songs I believe could fall into different genres. I'm hoping to just focus on one though.
Anyway I would really appreciate any feedback.
I have many songs available to stream at http://www.treyhunter.net
Thanks!
Trey
Hey Trey,
Welcome to the IC. I dig your songs. Immediately reminded me of Gram Parsons:
Have you done the USP exercise yet?
I ask because it's often less important what we sound like, and more important what we represent. For example, Green Day and the Sex Pistols may sound similar, but fans of often hate the other, because they represent fairly different things.
This is not to say that going off of sound is not worth trying. I always try finding similar artists based on sound, but I focus more on the values of the audience than the specifics of the sound, because at the end of the day it is going to be your "bold claim or promise about the experience that your music offers" that pulls people in, not usually the music itself, initially.
