Hi John and Masterminds
Every year we put on a NY Eve dinner/dance gig. It sells out at 250 people. Would NY Eve be a good time to do a CD release or should a release party stand on it's own?
Thanks!
Dawn
If you're trying to get fans and press there then I wouldn't do it because people will all have specific plans on that night. If your only goal is to have a great party, sell some CDs and make some new fans then I don't see any harm in it. I do wonder if maybe people will be so busy partying that they may not focus on the music as much as you would like for a record release. On the other hand everyone will be euphoric and it that might connect people to the music even more. It really comes down to what you want to accomplish.

I think New Years Eve would be a fantastic time to ANNOUNCE and upcoming release.
You could take the opportunity to tell people about the upcoming release and in exchange for an email address, send them home with a goody bag (stickers, band branding stuff and sneak release track).
If you are the host, you could jump on the mic and thank everyone for coming and make them aware of the goody bags. Everyone expects to be addressed by the host at a party anyway. That's your "in".
Your thoughts?
This is a great idea Steve! Yes we do the hosting and John is right it is a fun night and maybe we may want to make the CD release party more intimate with our own music and not covers...I love this forum thanks guys!
I think you should also make it clear on whatever invitations or fliers you
send out that it is your CD release, so your guests will be expecting it as
part of the party "package." I think it would be great to perform a short
4-song set and be done by 11:45 so the party transitions right into the countdown.
And of course, I like Steve''s idea a lot too. I think these ideas will go a long
way towards making your guests feel like they had a unique and special New Year's
with you (and your music) and for the long run, this what you want to accomplish.
Hi Tim
Awesome and adds value for sure. Because this is quite an "intimate event"( fans get tickets and it sells out within days) maybe we could make NY for FANS ONLY...Sneak Peak Preview ( exclusive, time limited and only so many tickets). Then have a public CD Release a month or two after.
