Welcome to the forum Anna! I agree with your experience. There is a ton of info out there and a lot of it is pretty useless. I feel very fortunate to have come across MMM 2.0, and when this forum came up, it was a complete no brainer for me. Since I took MMM 2.0, and joined this forum, I have progressed more in just a few months with the business end of my music carreer than I did in the past several years, and I took several other courses during those several years too!

What would a jam session with Gordon Lightfoot, Collective Soul, and Damien Rice sound like?

My name is Johnny Only. As a children’s musical entertainer and recording artist, my style is similar to Ralph’s World meets David Weinstone at a Wiggles concert. Then I mix in my own twist of personality with a bit of puppet work, juggling and bubble machines to give variety.
I currently use topspin to maintain my email list and to sell merchandise from my website. I have four independently produced CD's, three of which are available on iTunes. Out of those three CD's worth, one single is actually selling. Not a ton, but it is cool to actually have one that does sell. I average about 50 live performances per year, most of those are from a weekly show at one location. I'm pleased with how far I've come, but I feel stuck.
Overall, my business grosses maybe $10,000 per year, so, if you take out expenses, I'm just a little above breaking even. My goal, which motivated me to join this site, is to take it to the next level. Try to expand beyond my home town. Try to make a living. I've been choking along at pretty much zero growth for the last three years. I'm a bit discouraged.

Hey Johnny, Welcome to the forum, and please, don't be discouraged! If you are making any kind of profit, no matter how small, and you enjoy what you are doing, then you are doing something right. Now you just need to learn the methods and do the work to expand on what you are doing. Have you signed up for Johns Music Marketing Manifesto 2.0? If not, I highly recommend it. It does take a fair amount of work, and the results don't happen overnight, but I am proving to myself that the methods John lays out do work.
I am also learning so much in this forum that I have actually had to put my plans for implimenting some of Johns methods on hold for a while, so I can catch up on some other things. I don't know if you have read any of my other posts or not, but I have recently moved my squeeze page to a different hosting company, and am now in process of building a new website that will also be hosted by the same host that my squeeze page is with. This move is going to save me $240 per year, and the help I am recieving from John and this forum is incredible. (Thanks again, John and Steve!) The money I am saving will go a long way towards covering the (tax deductable!) cost of being a member of this forum, and that is just from one idea that I picked up here. One idea out of many!
Anyway, take some time, dig through the forum, and please, ask questions, answer questions if you can, or just make comments if you want! I have been with this forum from the beginning, and it's cool to see with each new member, how the knowledge base grows. Hang in there!

Hey All,
It's been a hectic summer for me, so I apologize for just now really utilizing the forum! I'm Anna Zoe, an independent alternative singer-songwriter originally from Erie, PA but currently living in NYC. I just released my first album, "Friction In Some Direction", in June 2011 on my own label, Dank Records, and plan to tour early 2012. After doing some internet marketing research, finding some not-so-good programs, I came across John's Music Marketing program last year and instantly had some small success, stemming mostly from his Twitter, Mailing List, and Squeeze Page advice. I have no doubt the Inner Circle will dig deeper, so I thank you all for having me be a part of it!
Peace,
-AZ 😀
Glad to hear you've seen some success as a result of MMM. Welcome to the forum and I hope to see you here more often 🙂

Hey Johnny welcome to the forum. You should should me a link to your stuff. i have a one and a half year old and am always looking for good stuff for him to listen to.
Re: Your story: On the one hand you're doing much better than most. You have regular gigs and are actually generating some income. The downside is that you're barely breaking even and in that situation it sounds like expansion only brings more expenses. In other words, more work, no increase in profit.
Hopefully we can help you hear. That's the great thing about the online model. With everything being digital everything is scalable without a substantial increase in cost or effort.
Be sure to watch the "sales funnel" video in the library. That's fundamental to understanding what this community of musicians is trying to do. Then come back and post threads about any of the specifics you are curious about.
At the need of the day this process is simple: Drive traffic, capture leads, use copywriting to convert subscribers into buyers.
The nice thing about what you do is that you have a very defined niche so it won't be hard to locate your target audience online.

Hey guys, just a heads up that I am going to lock this thread soon. We are getting so many different musicians saying hey on this thread as apposed to the introduce yourself forum that half the forum is now subscribed to the thread and I figure it may be crowding a few inboxes 🙂
Anyway, I'll leave it open so any current discussions can conclude, but moving forward new people should introduce themselves in the "share your music forum". That way each artist has a dedicated thread.
But thanks Greg for getting everyone talking 🙂

Not a problem John! I just opened this topic one day when I saw a lot of new subscribers, and only a few of us posting. I agree that the "share your music" forum would be a better place to do this. To be honest, I don't remember if I ever posted in that forum? My bad, I'll fix that soon!
