Hiya,

I'm curious to get a feel for how much people charge annually or month for membership sites?

I currently charge:

Discount (for special offers): $3/month or $27/year (not publicised on my website)

Regular: $5/month or $47/year

Donation: $10/month or $97

I had great success last year with a free signed CD giveaway (all 4 of my albums) for people who joined at the regular price of $47 (this sale outperformed my discount sales). I've just set this CD giveaway as my upsell. However, because of COVID international mail takes 2-3months, so I was thinking of switching to a discount deal ($27/yr). Much lower potential profit margins though. Hence my curiousity about what typical membership sites cost.

Cheers!

Rachel

I should clarify - membership allows people digital access to my whole catalogue. The CD giveaway meant offering 4 signed physical CDs for free for new members. The discount offer would mean just selling the digital product.

Hey Rachel,

It's sort of the wild west when it comes to membership sites. Not enough people are doing it to have any real "best practices". I have heard reports at $19/year and at $99/year and everything in between. Larger bands charge even more. It's all about your relationship with your fans and what you can get to convert.

The smart way of running this is to split test sales pages in the beginning and figure out what price point converts best. But I am often not that organized and tend to just take a guess at what I think people will pay and then down the line I test a higher price point to see what happens.

My personal feeling is that if you can't sell access for $29.95 a year, then you probably can't convert at any price. I think that is a good, safe place to start. But you may very well find that conversions either don't suffer, or even go up, at a higher price point.

I have often said that if someone is a "true fan" they will support you at almost any price point, but of course there are rational limits to that. All you can really do is test.

Cheers John! I think I'll start low, and then experiment with pushing the price up if it's converting well.

Awesome. Sounds like a plan. Keep me posted on how it goes.
