My band(on a loong hiatus) wants to promote the material we released 10 years ago. We toured, got commercial placements, played festivals & videos before we went our separate ways.
So the songwriter called me & wants to re-release the album without any tour/live support or any press etc.
I recommended new videos for the songs & some updated footage for ads etc. She doesn't want to do that just sell the music.
Is this worth it? Any recommendations?
Thank you all!
Hi Rob,
If someone in the band still has passion for it, and is willing to take the time to communicate with and nurture the fan base, then I see no reason not to do it. It will be brand new to those that get exposed to it. That said, I would tend to be of a similar mind to you and want to repackage it. Maybe even re-master it so it would truly be a new release. But you strictly speaking, that is not necessary.

Hi John,
Yeah the remaster bonus/live track addons make sense, I'm just concerned about the ROI, they will never play live and just want to sell product. I'm thinking all the social posts will be old pictures. I'm not paying for the traffic just wondering if it's worth it monetarily.
Well, you bring up a good point. If there is never going to be new music, then there is really no other way to boost your subscriber value, and because the profit often hits later in the funnel. You may not ever be able to become profitable, unless your performance is excellent, which will be harder with an old project that has little momentum. Ultimately only you can determine if this is the right call based on the above. If you determine that you can't reach profitability with this, then I would probably release it to the streaming platforms and then use it in a box set upsell for your more current project.
