Ok…just trying to spawn some creative thinking here…I have no idea how this is going to work…

It turns out this magazine interview I landed came as a result of a facebook ad. The editor-in-chief just so happened to see my ad, downloaded my song, and had one of her writers contact me. The article is coming out in July. Along with the article, she has shared the link to my squeeze page and my offer for a free download. To sweeten the deal, I have also offered a few signed CDs to the first ones who sign up. I'm hoping this will get me some traffic.

So, after my post on being more intentional with social media, I've been thinking about how to befriend bloggers, writers, journalists, etc. without being obnoxious or seeming like I just want something. I did some research on smooth jazz blogs, and found an influential blogger who is active on facebook.

Then I thought, "What if I targeted an ad so that he was bound to see it?" I looked on his page, found his interests and general location, and by tweaking certain parameters in my ad, was able to limit my reach to 40 people. He is one of the 40. The ad is running now.

I'll probably try this with some other bloggers. I'm just curious!! Of course, the idea is to make them feel like they discovered me. It may fail miserably, but I just have to know! Wink

It's amazing how precisely you can target Facebook ads. Can you imagine if I was targeting you, and my image was a goofy-grinned guy with a bubble that said, Hi, Dean!"?

I'm not sure everyone has our humor, but it is possible to do that!

How about taking it one step further....

Instead of a generalized ad with the aim of letting him "discover" you himself (just brainstorming here), how about you go personal and actually speak directly to him in the ad.  "Hey John Doe, I've made a personal video just for you.  Please click here."

Take him to a private video on youtube you made just for him, telling the guy that you admire his work (be specific) and would be honored to have him listen to your music.  Give him a link where he can download an entire album.

In the right circumstance, that might totally work. I don't want this guy to feel like I'm stalking him. 🙂

Hey Charley... who wouldn't want to be stalked by a smooth jazz legend who doubles as a ppc gooroo?  Panty soup...

That's kind of brilliant Charley. I personally wouldn't make it an add just for him because to my mind the goal would be to have him see you and just assume you were a big deal who was all over the internet (wait till you see this months training). If you targeted just him, that is blown. And you always could just message him if you want to make a direct statement like that.

But as a different note, I have had affiliates send me emails saying they were fans and made a video for me, in which they left a personal and sincere message for me about what I do. Who is not going to click on that?

All of those people made an impression and are in my awareness as a result. I have even worked with several of them.

But the approach was tasteful and low key.
