I was chatting with Kat today and 2 things came up in conversation that I thought I would run by everyone here:

The search feature in Aweber is pretty sweet. Once a week I search my subscribers to see which ones haven't confirmed the link. And, then I individually email them and check in "did you get the free song? I see you signed up on (date) but I notice you might not have received the song by clicking the confirmation link...yadayada." I find that most of them end up confirming. Which is gimmee subscribers considering they've already done the work of entering their contact info. Just thought id pass on that little tidbit. Takes 15 min and Ive found its worth it.

And....What to do with the people who have never opened your emails? Inevitably, there are some who just never open an email. Either because they entered their email incorrectly or because we just cant get past their junk filters. But, theyre just never gonna get our emails. So, whats the point of keeping them on the list and bringing down the open rate??? Im curious if it would be worth it to delete them and keep the open rate up for JV's etc.

thoughts???

Hi Dean,

I'm a getresponse user and what they do is keep an "unconfirmed" list for you for up to 30 days. Essentially if someone gives you a bogus email address, or your message get's hung up in spam filters, after 30 days they will automatically be removed. However it also gives you the option of sending the confirmation message again too.

You're definitely right though. It doesn't do you any good to keep an unresponsive list and it does lower your open rates. It def doesn't hurt to reach out and send them the confirmation link again, but it's nice that my autoresponder will automatically clean house for me, if people are unresponsive to the confirmation message.

Good job at being proactive enough to spot that and do something about it.

This is a signature file.  You can edit your own by clicking "profile" and selecting "Edit Signature".  You can make it an image, or just plain text.  You can also link it to wherever you like.  Perhaps your Squeeze Page?

Question along the same lines: is there any reason to keep unsubscribers? The only issue I see is that when you delete "Unsubscribers" and "Undeliverables", all of their data is wiped out of all of your reports. Is there any reason we would need the data? Something we should write down before deleting them?

And sounds like you think it makes sense to delete the emails who never open?

Thanks!

Hey guys!

FYI: I just spoke to AWeber and they do the same thing as GetResponse re: drop the unconfirmed's from your list after 30 days.

Unless I'm mistaken unconfirms won't affect your open rate because the email doesn't get sent to them. I do typically delete my unsubscribes simply because I don't want to pay for the space I'm not using. but it's a good idea to keep track of how many people you delete just so that when you figure out your average subscriber value, you take the unsubscribes into consideration. because they obviously factor in to the subscriber value equation.
