Hey All,
I've been getting more and more requests to play live as a solo act, so I've been thinking of doing some house concert tours. This all led me to wonder how I could get a visual of where my subscribers are so I could start to plan. Here's an experiment of what I did with a subset of my Aweber list. This is just to see what might be possible.
If you go to http://www.zeemaps.com/ and follow the instructions, you can import a .csv file that includes the IPs of your subscribers. Below is a picture of a pretty high-level map, but when you use their website, you can zoom in and get as much detail as you could possibly want. You can even have it post email addresses, names, or whatever, which would all be a mess on a map of this scale, but might actually be useful when you zoom in close.
Very cool Charley! Thanks for sharing this.

Thanks for the info Charley. I knew that Aweber tracked IP addresses but I've never looked into it. Good stuff. This could be very valuable intel if you were planning a tour or thinking of running paid ads.

Cool map. I actually like seeing those on blogs and stuff.
As John was hinting at, geo targeting is something that most autoresponders are offering you in order to target campaigns by location. That should definitely help when trying to generate attendance for tour dates and such.
Off the top of my head... if you are heading to a particular city, you could geo target those fans that are already on your list and incentivize them to do a social media update to their friends to generate new fans from that area.
Thanks for sharing Charley!
