Hi,
I would love some opinions on this email letter below and survey that I'm sending out to the guitarist that I have featured on my internet radio station. I'm trying to raise money for improvements and wanted to get an idea on how the musicians that I play on the station feel and if they will help contribute. Any feedback is welcome. The station is RadioGuitar.com

Important message about the future of Radio Guitar
Hi Guitarists,
I am planning to redesign and improve the Radio Guitar website. This will double the capacity of the station and offer twice as much music to our listeners. It will also make the website better for browsing and offer new ways to feature and promote your music to a bigger audience.
Radio Guitar has grown in popularity based on the quality of your music and through word of mouth. When I created it, simply from a moment of inspiration, I really had no idea how popular it would become. Improvements to Radio Guitar will let us reach a lot more people!
Since 2009, when I created Radio Guitar, Phil and I have financed it from our own pockets. I need to raise money for the station in order to buy more space, a new website theme and for my time designing and improving the station. It’s very important that I know your thoughts and opinions! PS: I want you to all know and realize that if your music is on Radio Guitar, I intend to have at least one track of yours on the playlist continuously so you can be assured you have a place on the station. But we do need to expand the station capacity to keep doing this.
It's a little hard for me to say because I don't know the relationship you have with your list, but the thing that struck me was that it was too much about what they could do for you.
have you considered offering discounted ad space and featured positioning on your site instead of calling it a donation?
Your offer kind of seemed a bit reversed to me. I would start with the great opportunity for THEM and then address buyer resistance by talking about how cool the station is.
I would personally respond much better to, we're offering 20 artists a chance to get discounted advertising and featured placement on our popular site" than I would, Our station is doing great but we need a donation from you.
Does that make sense? Hope that doesn't come off as harsh or anything. Just my take. Others might disagree.

Hi John,
Thanks. It doesn't come across as harsh at all and it does make sense.
I think the problem you're picking up on is that I'm not sure whether to go with the donation model or not. There are also problems with having a station on live365 that I'm struggling with. Basically - live 365 makes it easy to start a hobby station, but they like to keep it all centered on their site with their own advertising on the stations. So lots of people listen to the station but don't go to my (RadioGuitar.com) website. I didn't think it through when I started the station because I didn't understand this or think about it. I just thought it was a good idea, and in a way it was. It's popularity is a blessing and a curse because it is appreciated by a lot of people, but I put in my time and effort and I don't make any money. It's getting impossible for me to keep up.
It's up to me to try and drive people to the website to make it worth selling advertising. To do that effectively would take a lot of work. So with this email and survey I am trying to see if there is enough support and interest from the musicians being played before I put in more time and money. Honestly, I'm not really sure if this is a good idea or what to do.
I see. Yeah, if you are debating whether or not it's worth it to continue then I think a survey is a great way to go. I would just position the offer so it offered more value for them, IE free advertising or something like that, as apposed to just a donation.
Years ago, before I got started with internet marketing I had a live365 station as well. You're right, they don't make it easy unless you spend quite a lot of money with them. However you can create your own audio ads and insert them into the program relatively inexpensively. I think selling ad space is really the only way to make an online radio station work. Something to think about at least.
