Hi Guys,
I recently asked a question on one of the Record Release Formula coaching sessions and John suggested I share the music here and ask for your opinion.
Basically I'm not sure what artists I sound like and which audience I should be targeting with my upcoming album. Earlier work was very clearly jazz but this is not. I'm wondering if Triple A is the best fit.
Could any of you please take the time to tell me what sort of music you think this is and one or two acts that it makes you think of?
Anyway, here's a Bandcamp link to the eight completed songs so far for streaming:

There should be twelve in all at least by the end.
Many thanks for any help.
Love
Richard
Hey Richard,
Sorry for the delay in responding. I've been offline for the weekend.
While your production and vibe is different, the first thing I thought of was Nick Cave. He's darker than you, in my opinion, but that was what jumped out at me.
For example...
The only issue with targeting Nick Cave is that so much of what he is about is his darker sensibility. Unless you matched that with your imagery, I think targeting Nick Cave alone might be a disconnect without a similar visual.
But it's a thought.

Thanks, John, for the feedback. Would you describe it as Triple A or something else?
Thanks,
Richard
Hi Richard,
Steve here. As much as I'd love to try to give you some insight here, I must admit I'm at a loss when it comes the genre/similar artists.
I don't know if this helps, but your voice to me sounds somewhat in the realm of Warren Zevon, although I know the music is quite different.
I just wanted to throw that out there, just to try to help.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the suggestion.
Cheers,
Richard

Yeah, I think this would fall under triple A. Mind you, radio is not my expertise and an radio promoter might have a different opinion, but that sounds right to me.
I agree with Steve's Warren Zevon reference in terms of your voice as well. That said, I think his fans follow him for his storytelling more than his specific sound.
